So worth it

Written on Aug 02, 2024

I have not used the set yet, but I did unpack it and spent some time simply admiring the quality, construction, and envisioning all of its uses while at camp, or at home, but mainly camp. Firstly, it's incredibly lightweight, which is the hallmark of SP cast iron -- it has the same cooking properties of cast iron but simply much lighter and compact with all 4 items nesting compactly into one and weighs less than just one of most other brand's cast iron. Done, that's all I needed to know to start the process of replacing all of my camp cookware with SP cast iron wherever possible. So this set is for day to day usage of the 4 main campers that I have at base camp, it probably covers breakfast, lunch, and snack time for almost everything. I plan to use the pot for mainly white rice, but also soups or frying a handful of chicken strips or dumplings. I have larger SP and other branded cast iron and stainless steel for dinner and larger festivals with more base-campers and guests/visitors. I think this set plus a 10 inch frying pan, 10 inch cast iron oven, and 2-burner set up would cover most family of 4 camping trips and I am extremely happy to be carrying this set with me.

Gamechanger for cooler weather days

Great for campers who carry a lot of power (lithium or 12v battery) or have access to shore power, or on patios where there is A/C power and can convert it to 12v DC power. Once you figure out how to power this, it completely changes the amount of time that can be spent comfortably outdoors as temperatures slip below 70F in the shoulder season or as the sun sets and the cold of night sets in. While gathering around a campfire definitely warms campers up, getting heat to "warp around" was always a problem. 'Going back inside' whether that was simply packing it in and returning to the inside of an RV, tent, sleeping bag, or just going home was the solution to this 90% of the time. A slight improvement came with insulated camping chairs and loveseats, and that may be a great solution for many of us. For even more extended enjoyment of outdoor spaces when it gets colder, adding these pads to the back of chairs does wonders. At only 23 Watts, a 230 Watt battery pack would power this for 10 hours on max, however by using lower settings the heat could last even longer. Due to the power saver feature however the pad only heats for 90 minutes and then has to be turned back on to start another 90 minute session. While this works for sitting around the campfire outside, its other use which is to put it inside of a sleeping bag to add 23 watts of heat while sleeping is only good for when first getting into the bag or if waking up cold and wanting to heat back up, or for heating u

Very high quality

Solid but also lightweight, extremely high quality fit and finish, subtle details like the depth and feel of the diamond cut grip stand out, was able to use these with an Entry IGT table and the Jikaro Firering to create a “bridge” out of the renewed bamboo extension instead of carrying table legs, joins separate IGT surfaces seamlessly and capable of holding a lot of weight
