Cloud Pan

Written on May 18, 2016

I received my Ti fry pan and noticed right away how light it was. It was also a little smaller than I thought. I got the largest but found the bottom of the pan was about an inch smaller than the flared pan walls. I immediately cooked up some blueberry pancakes using veg oil on one batch and butter for another batch but found it had excessive sticking with both. Perhaps if the heat was lower, there will be less sticking. The handles fold nicely though and of course it is super light. It fits nicely into my MSR deep dish plate and little items like sponge, scraper and utensils fit nicely in pan making for a small footprint in pack. Overall, it is good to have a real fry pan for fish and fryables that is cloud light. It also works for sauteing on an Emberlit wood stove so all in all, it is a good purchase.

The T-Rex of Shoes

Written on May 13, 2016

The La Sportiva Ultra Raptors are the king of their genre. The support in the shoe is phenomenal. The grip, like strong sharp claws. The breathability is unsurpassed. They feel like dinosaur shaped clouds in the sky when you wear them. The only caveat is they run a tiny bit small so order a half size larger. I did and they fit perfectly with plenty of room for the toes to splay out and not be crushed in like sardines. The shoes eat up ground like a T-Rex eats up meat, with great speed. I just cannot give too many superlatives about this shoe. CampSaver got them to me quickly too and unlike some other places I investigated, CampSaver had a great range of sizes.

Nordic Wolf

Written on Oct 15, 2015

Received the hat quickly. Was shocked when I opened the package. The amount of real looking wolf fur on this hat was spectacular. A visual phantasmagorical thing of wildness. Next I tried it on. A perfect fit. The comfort was more than could be expected. Then I tried tying the ear flaps down with the handy dandy adjustable buckle which can be manipulated while wearing gloves. It was like wearing a super soft warm cloud on my head. I looked in the mirror and was shocked by the manly stud looking back at me. I really love this hat. It started to get too warm to wear inside as I wanted it on for a couple of hours to "break it in" so to speak, so I fastened the ear flaps up and fastened them on top of the hat with the same easy snap buckle. I swear, it looks like you are wearing a werewolf head on your head. Dark, wild, warm and utterly compelling. This Fjallraven hat is a winner. Get one if you want to be warm this winter.

Wear A Cloud

This Terra Nova Laser pack is something I look at with pride. It is a beautiful little thing although it does hold 35 liters. To begin with, the pack itself is light, compact so you can crunch it up and stuff it into your backpack while on the go until you need to take it out and set off on a day trip. The Laser also has easy access with a centered vertical zipper that traverses the entire length of the pack for easy pack ability and access for when you reach your destination. No blind hunting and pecking to find your sandwich, water bottle or rain gear. For longer items like a tripod the pack features pockets on each side of the pack along with easy to use bungee cords on each side the entire length of each side of pack. Terra Nova came up with a winner in this one. I am sooo glad I shelled out the little bit more to get such a quality too.

Going Down?

I chose this rope, a 9.6mm diameter because I wanted it to be lighter for packing on a trek that includes several decent rappels. I also chose the 70m for the extra length. The rope is quality Mammut and can also be used as a lead rope in a pinch. The green is nondescript and can not be easily seen from a distance. Stealthy. Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for and the price at CampSave
