Long break in

Written on Apr 28, 2017

I wore these for two 10 hour days to break them in. This was a very painful experience for my ankles. Even after two long days the left boot was still painful. That is when I gave up and returned them. I had read another review that said it was a long break in process but it was worth it in the end. I put my Solomons back on and they felt like heaven after the 2 painful days. I have been wearing Solomon Quest 4D2 gtx for 3 years and I thought I would try something new. It made me appreciate how awesome the Solomons are.

Great boot

Written on Jan 19, 2015

i have backpacked for many years in almost every National Park plus the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. I now mostly do day hikes with a light pack. I weigh around 200 lbs. I really didn't want to give up my last pair of boots but they were falling apart. Since that boot is no longer made I tried these Salomon 4D GTX. With the lacing system on this boot I have trouble imagining anyone not being able to get a very comfortable fit if they are willing to spend a little time. The laces can be adjusted so that the toe box can be loose or tight separate from the top of the boot. I believe this boot could be adjusted to fit from a B to EE foot with ease. My foot is between those two sizes and I can adjust the fit from spaciously loose to very snug. If I am hiking a rocky challenging trail I keep the boots snug if I have a flatter trail with good footing I will keep the fit looser. The overall cushioning and support are excellent. I will be interested to see if the very cushioned feel remains long term. I highly recommend this boot although I have not used it with very a very heavy pack.
