Recommended Rain Pants

Written on Mar 13, 2018

These were purchased to replace a pair of Marmot Pre-cip rain pants and found they far exceed them, I brought them on a 8 day backpack trip where they really came through. They proved waterproof in significant rain events, are very lightweight and packed into even the smallest stash pockets on my backpack. They're breathable, and were comfortable with all but higher exertion while hiking.

These Rabs seem to have a lower rise or are just better tailored around the lower torso. In the Marmot Pre-cip's I always had to turn down the waist band to take up the paunch that extra fabric created around the waist and crotch. These Rabs proved less bulky under the pack belt, especially important when you have to start layering up.
True there are no pockets, but this is what helps keeps the bulk down, Thought I would miss them, but actually didn't.
These also served great as wind pants and were the easiest way to add an extra layer of warmth.on the trail

One of my mandatory features for rain pants was being able to leave boots on while changing. The high zips up to the knee suited me perfectly. I was thinking of getting a full zip pant to accommodate this, but no need. There is plenty of room for a range of boots (though I haven't tried them over ski boots just yet). The full zip marmots would have been stiff and much bulkier. These are very easy to take on and off, needed for when the weather keeps turning on a dime.
I'm happy with the durablilty. Like the other review
