Best kids pack I have found. Plenty of adjustment in size. The most comfortable suspension system that I have tried, and I have tried many for my kids.

Fantastic fit for an 8 year-old

Love this bag. Prefect size for my 8 year old son. Bag is just big enough for him to share some of the load when we go backpacking together. Bag will fit his sleepingbag, pad, and possibly some food (no more than 7 to 10 pounds, total). My son reports that the pack is comfortable on his back and that the straps feel nicely padded. Construction is fantastic and quality of materials seems to be top notch. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Fits the need perfectly

This pack is great for getting your younger ones into hiking. Had bought a small 45L women's pack to start and decided thar wasn't the way to go for my daughter. Came across this Deuter 40L pack and thought it would be better than the 30L version. I am all about going smaller to force you to pack lighter,smaller but felt the 30L version was just not going to cut it. Glad I went with the 40L and because of its adjustability/gender neutral we can share it amongst all 3 kids as they grow.

Great 1st Pack

Lid with zippered pocket does not float, but it is intended for youth that can't carry too much weight. The pack is the good size at 40L and has an adjustable harness. Zipper side pockets and lower mesh side pockets. Has all of the adjustments you need to fit it for comfort. Good build. Does have bottom of the pack zippered access but there is no divider inside pack. Not that you need that or want the extra weight. Only bummer would be no hip belt pockets, but for the price you cannot argue one bit.
