Great compliment to the Giga Jul
The Edelrid Bulletproof Triple-Lock is my go-to caribiner for belaying whether I'm using an ATC, Edelrid Giga Jul, or GriGri. The steel insert extends the life of the carabiner and the inner lock keeps it properly oriented on my harness at all times. When paired with the Giga Jul, I find there's more slippage in assisted mode than there is with the all-aluminim HMS Strike, but with proper friction and belay technique this is not a problem.
Best Used for:
- Securing belay device to harness
Would recommend: Yes
Overengineered but not overbuilt
This carabiner has it all! Wire bale to keep it oriented in a way that takes advantage of the steel insert, steel insert to increase durability/not get aluminum bits all in my ropes and a nice 3-stage gate opening mechanism that feels a lot like the Petzl triact locks if a bit springier. Really nice to use for belaying/rapping/anchors if you were so inclined. Not too heavy and a nice color to boot!
Pros:
- durable
- pretty
- skookum
- many features
Cons:
- high gate/locking tension
Best Used for:
- belay biner
- top rope anchor
Would recommend: Yes
Lightweight and strong
Steel wear area, light frame, auto locking and a wiregate keeper. Everything I was looking for. The auto locking mechanism feels sturdier than the magnetic one I had, plus the steel contact point should last longer.
