Most Helpful Positive Review Bombproof
This is a fantastic water filter with exceptional performance. It is heavier than other filters I have used however is a lot more durable. This would be best suited for long duration trips where reliability is important. You will never need another water filter especially when this is backed up by Katadyn's reputation for quality.

I admit I have not yet used this filter. I purchased it more to have on hand in case of an emergency need for water than for camping trips. It was highly recommended by a survivalist blogger I follow. He travels the world and has been in many 3rd world countries and said he has used the same Katadyn pocket filter for at least 20 years. He said to buy one NOW so I did. It is very nicely made, but a bit heavier than I expected. Not too heavy for a backpack but a bit large and heavy for a "pocket", even a cargo pocket. I hope I never need it for the reason I purchased it, but will definitely be taking it on camping trips to try it out, and I am considering buying one for each of our adult boys. It comes with a roomy case that easily holds all the tubing and lubricant as well as the users guide I printed from this website.
Pros:
  • Known to filter everything except viruses
Cons:
  • Does not filter viruses, a bit heavy
Best Used for:
  • camping, emergency water needs

Katadyn water filter

Great water to have on hand for any type of unforeseen emergency. Never know when that next storm is going to happen and need to be prepared for anything. Also allows me to stay out at camp or the trail for longer periods with having a way to filter water and not have to carry all of it.

Quality product

Haven’t had a chance to use the filter in the field. So don’t know taste of water. Tried the filter in the kitchen. I threw away the instructions, so I didn’t know which is inlet/outlet for the hoses. There’s no marking. After testing, I’d made markings for future reference for others and myself to attach the hoses. It is a single pump action filter, meaning water comes out on the push action. It does requires some force and will be tiresome after awhile. I like the rubberized bottom which helps prevent slipping off rocks and other surfaces. This is the heaviest Katadyn filter I’ve ever owned.

From yuck and muck to fantastic.

So far I have only used this filter on an overnight hike. The hike was about 17miles long in 80+ degree weather. Needless to say, my group and I went through lots of water. With little effort I was able to fill my own camelback and water bottle, plus everyone else's. The finished product was excellent water quality, great taste, and crystal clear. The filter was easy to set up, easy to store,

Best water filter out there!

If you need a filter of true back packing use on multi treks or expeditions this is the one to buy. We've never had a problem with it and it keeps the water free of parasites and bacteria, just as it should.
