Most Helpful Positive Review Great tent!
I love this tent...it's the bomb. I bought it for the John Muir Trail this summer and it was perfect. I think it's the perfect 1-person tent. It is super-easy and goes up and down fast. Love the twist clamps ~ they're so great! The door is a good size and the zipper worked well and never gave me any problems. I'm 5'4" 115lb-ish and there was plenty of room for me and my pack and stuff. I think it would be fine for someone bigger than myself. The rain fly fits well & the zipper worked well on that, too. Everything about this tent is easy, uncomplicated and good quality. The vestibule is a decen...

Great entry-level backpacking tent

by Alan B, from TX, United States Written on January 17, 2019
After using the Kelty Discovery 2 for several years, I was surprised to find this tent even easier to use. The simple, intuitive design, and the color-coded straps make setup super easy - just like I expected based on my other tent. What makes this even better is the poles (flush joints) and the pole hooks (twist design that's easier to snap in and out of place). The (separate) footprint has matching colored straps.

The packed size is small enough for me, as a rookie backpacker. The interior size is just large enough for me to sit up in (I'm 5'8") - the perfect size for changing clothes, reading, and sleeping.

kelty salida 1 is a very good solo tent

by john, from OH, United States Written on December 29, 2018
Love this lightweight tent, under 4# with footprint which I made from 2mil clear plastic, plenty of room for my 5 10 frame, vestibule a bit small, sets up fast and easy, stayed dry through some very rainy hikes. Great value. I'd give it 5 stars instead of 4 if the vestibule could be made bigger without adding weight.
Pros:
  • Lightweight
Cons:
  • None

Kelty Salida 1

by Grimm, from OH, United States Written on December 21, 2018
This is my first solo tent. It has proved to be a good purchase. Weight to price ratio is great. Obviously you can get tents that are fractions of a pound lighter but you pay three times the price. It’s sets up in under a minute and the stakes are durable. I felt like I had plenty of room inside. The vestibule is a tad small but I can live with that. It’s a keeper.

This tent is fantastic. it is not as cramped as many. It was very easy for me to assemble without needing another set of hands. It provides good privacy. I love it and can't wait to take it to Philmont.

Kelty Salida 1 person tent

by Iloveclimbing, from BC, Canada Written on April 21, 2018
Perfect size and great price! I have done a lot of research and price comparison for a 1 person tent and this tent is by far the most value for the price you pay. I am 5 foot 5 and there is plenty of room to sleep and store my gear, the vestibule is a plus to keep your shoes dry.

Hard not to like

by cmal, Verified Owner from MD, United States Written on April 15, 2018
For the price, it's hard to imagine anything better. It's roomy enough inside that my 6'1" body can sit up and get changed. There's also enough room on the sides to put a few things down which is nice. Are there better, lighter tents out there? I am sure. But for the price, I'll stick with this one for a while.

I changed out the bag (64g) that it comes in and put the tent in its own stuff sac (11g). Same with the fly(11g). Not too much weight savings (1.5oz), but easier to pack each separate piece in my pack.

Rolling up the fly door and hooking it so it stays open is a pain and you can't really do it from inside the tent. I don't know that there is a great fix for this, and it's minor, really.
Pros:
  • Easy Set Up
  • Price
  • Roomy
Cons:
  • Not super light
  • needs some vents on fly
  • the bag it comes in
  • vestibule is a little too small for my liking
Best Used for:
  • Backpacking

This tent fits my needs very well.

by Big River John, from MO, United States Written on April 8, 2018
This is my second review of this tent. I purchased this tent a few years ago and have liked it so much I decided to order a another as a back up. I use this tent primarily for cycle touring and it is the best option I've found for that application. It packs small, is under 4 pounds, easy to set up, and has held up well in wind and rain storms.

Great tent

by Brent, from CA, United States Written on February 14, 2018
Great tent, a little heavy and no vents on fly but overall can’t beat it for the price. Very easy to set up and the matching footprint (sold separately) is perfect. Love the fact that it doesn’t need to be staked in

Great price for the quality.

by Kevin Earls, Written on December 13, 2016
I have a slightly older model of the Kelty Salida 2 person Tent purchased in 2011. I wanted to give a review on the durability of that tent.

I have been very impressed by the quality and durability of the tent. In the last 5 years of use (1 weekend trip per month on average), I have not had any problems. All of the zippers have worked flawlessly with no bad spots, no rips or tears in the fabric or mesh, the water proofing has held up great, and the poles are just as good as new. The only wear you can see is in the fabric colors fading and some of the zipper pull cords are showing their core fibers. There are no holes in the floor even though I have only used a ground cloth about 20% of the time. I've had to reapply the water proofing on the rain fly of my REI half dome tent that has about the same amount of use, but the Kelty still sheds water.

I also have a Kelty backpack that I have greatly abused for the last 10 years that is still going strong. Kelty makes some great products that last. I know I'm sounding like a paid advertiser, but my experience has been really great.
