Super Good Bear Canister
Small size is perfect for fitting into smaller alpine packs and plenty of space for 5 or 6 days of food for one or two people. Don't use freeze dried so lots of space for real food. More than enough space to pack 3 days of food, stove and canister fuel inside.
Best to carry small pot holder to make...

Misleading Weight
I have size small. In the spec, the weight is listed as 1 lb 5 oz, EXCLUDING the required top/pan (6 oz) and handle (1 oz). So, the actual total weight as a bear-proof canister is 1 lb 12 oz, which is 33% more than stated.

This is BIG!
I ordered the larger Bear bin because it cost only marginally more and I sometimes bring lightweight snacks that take up more volume while backpacking. When it arrived, it was much larger than it appeared in the picture with the backpacker holding it. This will take up over half your pack. It is better suited for car camping for which I intend to use it. The standard size bin is much better suited for backpacking of 2-4 days unless you are carrying for a larger group. I like the light weight and transparency of the bin although it is somewhat pricey.
Pros:
- Light weight
- transparent
Cons:
- bigger than expected
Best Used for:
- car camping or larger backpacking groups

Anyone else see a problem with lid as frying pan?
As someone who camps in bear country a lot, I find this innovative design less than optimal for real use in bear country. Having been surprised by bears walking into camp before, I want to be able to keep closed or quickly close my food canister if a bear suddenly appears. If I'm cooking in the frying pan lid, this leaves isn't possible.

Pretty decent
I bought this model because I needed a bear canister that was accepted in parks both on the east coast and on the west coast. This one fit the bill. It's sturdy, well shaped, see through and comparable in weight to others. I've used it on several week + hikes so far and have enjoyed it much more than the traditional black canisters. The pot/lid, while functional, I never used as a cooking implement for several different reasons: 1) If I had to wash or dry the pot that meant that I left my food open and unattended. 2) Why add more food scent/grease to your canister? 3) Sometimes I like to sit on the can to cook and needed the top on. I gave this a 4 out of 5 stars because the metal screws to secure the lid were not always as easy to work with as they were advertised to be. Also the handle that sat inside the can to screw the screws into could be finicky if there were packages of food that pushed it up- not allowing the holes to align between the handle and the can to get the screws to screw in. While the fixes were simple, I found it annoying. Overall a great product that meets my needs.

Compact!
I generally only do shorter backpacking trips (1-2 nights) so my backpack is not super big (the Kelty PK 50). Unfortunately most bear canisters will not fit in this pack with all of my other gear. This canister fits great! I like that it is clear so I can see where everything is inside it (like the Bear Vault), but unlike the Bear Vault it is easy to open, even with cold fingers. The pan that serves as a lid is a cool idea, although I have not tried to boil water in it yet. This canister is probably not big enough for longer trips, but if you are taking longer trips you probably have a bigger pack. I am so glad this canister is available for those of us with smaller packs!!!

Bear bin
Perfect for storing food. The lid is pretty cool as it also doubles as a cooking pan.

Bear Bin
Easily packs 2-3 days of food for one. It's a nice size that doesn't take up the majority of space in your pack.

I would buy again
I read complaints about the screws connecting the top. I didn't find any thing wrong with this system.

Great Item
Love the fact that the lid is also a frying pan. If I have to carry it for bear proofing, then it might as well be highly functional. Wide mouth allows easy access
