Great Ice Climbing Boot

by Mike, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on March 17, 2022
These were bought in a Men's size 5, which ended up being Euro Size 37. My girlfriend is using them as there aren't many women's specific boots to choose from. The boots fit fantastic, with no rubbing or heel lift. She said the boots were plenty warm. The zipper on the gaiter is the type used in rafting, so it will be 100% waterproof with the proper maintenance. At this size, the Petzl Lynx crampons fit great.

Waterproof, stiff, supportive - excellent climbing boots!

by Jason452, Verified Owner from AK, United States Written on November 29, 2020
After trying almost every ice boot on the market, I settled on these Lowas as an upgrade/alternative to my Nepal Cubes. The fit is similar - wide forefoot and narrower heel - and the cuff height of the Lowas is just slightly lower (a centimeter). This is advantageous for me since I like a little more ankle support than some of the other supergaiters offer (e.g. new Phantom Techs - high cut running shoes!). I get no heel lift, even loosely laced, and no toe bang. For sizing, the size chart on the Lowa Canada website was about right; my feet are about 26.5-9 cm long and the 42.5 fits great. For comparison, I wear a 43 in the Nepals and a 42.5 in the Asolo Freney XT GV. The Lowas fit perfectly with Camp Bladerunner crampons - which are also amazing. The inner lacing system is intuitive and durable (no plastic gimmicks), and has reliable lower lace locks. The outer gaiter is 100% waterproof; I waded through 12 inches of overflow and stayed dry. As with most Lowas, the insole is supportive and insulating, unlike the throwaways in most mountain boots. The 1000 g weight might not appeal to everyone, but this isn’t really a concern climbing frozen waterfalls - heavier boots perform just as well or better. The only defect I can see is the gaiter is a little loose around my skinny calves, but for others that might not be an issue - could also be modified if necessary. For speed ascents and slogging, a lighter boot might be helpful, but the excellent fit, technical performance, waterpro...
