I really like the Renegade GTX boots, other than the facts that they destroy my heels and they're a little warmer than I'd hoped, although I'm not concerned about that. I'm not sure if it's the stitching in the center of the heel or something else, but I've worn them hiking primarily since I got them (at least 30 miles) and my heels haven't been able to heal the whole time, even with bandaids on almost constantly, and I rarely get to hike more then 3 times/week for 4+ miles/hike. I added Spenco Polysorb Cross-Training insoles before my last hike and left the original insoles in, too, so my feet would be as locked-in and cushioned as possible. I won't be doing that again because my toes hurt some and my heels still blistered worse. My heels mostly healed up from my last hike in the Renegades a week ago (had bandaids on my heels with thick socks and it still got rough), which was 10 miles with only a little bit of off-trail wandering and really steep climbs. I don't rock-climb or anything like that. I just like to make my hikes more challenging at times, which often means skipping the trail to take a more direct route up or down a mountain, often at steeper angles. However, I went for a 4.25 mile hike today and stayed on the trail until my heels started hurting after about a mile and only barely strayed after. My heels are blistered worse.
