Excellent 3L Alpine Shell Jacket!

by Nick G, Verified Owner from OK, United States Written on October 10, 2017
I bought this fairly basic shell jacket to use primarily for resort skiing, and I’m very impressed with Mammut’s construction and attention to detail (as usual). These guys really know how to make very functional outdoor apparel for tall, lanky guys like me. The jacket is a fairly burly medium weight 3L shell that’s softer and less stiff than standard Gore-Tex, with just a bit of stretch to it. I haven’t had a chance to test its waterproofing yet, but I can tell it’s impressively breathable. My XL weighs 20 oz. The fit is just about right for my 6’ 5”, 220 lb. frame; it’s the right length in the body and sleeves with enough room for layering underneath. I can easily fit a warm puffy underneath, but it doesn’t look baggy through the body with thinner layers. The detailing is simply perfect, and it’s one smooth-looking jacket in Titanium with blue zippers. All pockets are well-placed. It’s got two generous handwarmer pockets, one smaller upper chest pocket, and two internal mesh pockets. The Velcro-adjustable cuffs are really easy to adjust with gloves or mittens on. Overall, you really get a lot of jacket for $300 here (I paid less than half that, though). This would work really well for the wet snow conditions you find in the Sierras or Cascades. Highly recommended for cold weather alpine adventures, backcountry skiing, or resort skiing. Things I would change: make the upper chest pocket bigger and add a removable powder skirt.
Pros:
  • Very breathable
  • Fairly burly fabric
  • Excellent fit
  • Great form and function
Cons:
  • Balky main zipper
Best Used for:
  • resort skiing
  • Alpine pursuits
  • Backcountry skiing
Would recommend: Yes

Just bought a Mammut Masao jacket in amazon green

by ken h., Verified Owner from QC, Canada Written on November 10, 2014
so far so good. Campsaver customer service is amazing. My original color selection (dark spring) turned out to be too fluorescent for my taste. customer service sorted me out right away. I'm very happy.
As for the jacket, it is a minimalist shell that fits great. The extra length on the sleeves makes it great for fall biking in Montreal. I intend to use it as an outer shell for more active winter activity like ski touring, snowboard hiking. also make great rain jacket.

Masao Jacket is so popular in Korea in Winter hadeuswel. Dukkegam to some extent, and I've ordered the s size as the Ultimate Hoodie with, Masao Jacket shows a size corresponding to between sm. This is possible with winter layering hardshell. In particular, it is a favorite hood. Has a hood that can also cover enough to wear a beanie.
