I was a bit sketched out buying a random jacket from a website that made my credit card company spontaneously issue me a new card in case of fraud. BUT THIS JACKET IS AWESOME. I’m 5’9” and the Small is a perfect fit with a layer or two underneath. SUPER light and packs down nicely! One breast pocket to stash whatever you need. Great color.

Have not used the jacket yet so I cannot answer questions of durability or weatherproofing but the fit is perfect and the price was great! This jacket will be in my pack every time I head out. Packs down small and weighs almost nothing.

The Marmot Essence Jacket is a well designed lightweight, waterproof, breathable, and packable rain jacket. It is ideal for hiking, backpacking, canoeing, and canoe camping. As with most lightweight gear, durability and price are the low points, but that is to be expected and not a problem. For jackets in this price-point and weight class, this jacket is a winner.
Pros:
- Lightweight
- Water proof
- Packability
- Breathability
Best Used for:
- HIKING
- canoe camping
- Backpacing

I bought this for a hiking trip in Honduras and it didn't rain. So i truly haven't tested it yet. I'm sure it'll perform very well.

Great Jacket. Why would Marmot discontinue a great product? $200 is a little pricy even though I got mine for much less. Can't wait to put it to the real weather test on the AT next year.

Great jacket. Very light. Only issue (which I already knew) was lack of pockets. There was an issue with the shipping but customer service was great, tracked it down, and refunded my shipping cost.

I'm disappointed. I've received my Marmot Essence (size large), and it's 212 grams, not 170grams, I assumed that size large should be at most 20 grams heavier than size medium?

Pros it's light , very comfortable, and packs small and blocks the wind nice.
Cons. It's still a rain coat so it's not all that breathable, even with all the bells and whistles. Too be expected when hiking up hill at a quick pace. I unzip it a bit and wore the hood up higher which let out my extra heat.
Another cool feature is how you can adjust the hood hat brim height. You can raise and lower it which is nice as I hate it when the hood blocks your vision.
It has no side pockets for your hands, but if it did my backpack would have covered them
The vest pocket is nice sized, I could fit my wallet and phone in there. It was tight but they both fit. So the important items stay dry.
The material is quiet and my pack rides well on it.
It's a very well designed and built coat. A lot of thought went into the coat.
I like it.
