I researched down insulated jackets for about three winter seasons and finally found a good replacement for my 12-year old REI winter down parka. This jacket has a lot of nice features and works. I wanted the insulating qualities of down with a more durable exterior. I also didn't want a system jacket-just a 'throw and go' jacket. More specifically a parka. I recently tried the shadow jacket out on a 34-35 degree night with 20mph NW winds for about two hours with only a t-shirt underneath. The Marmot Shadow Jacket is great. I love it. It was a Christmas gift from my wife. She loves her Marmot jacket so much I had to get one. It is so warm and I can go out on cold days with just a t-shirt under. Have not had the chance to wear it on the mountain yet but I cannot wait. The hood is detachable, which is a must. The powder skirt is there. However, the worst feature of this jacket is that it has a "media" pocket inside the chest that is severely lacking. It could hold an iPod Nano or Shuffle and that it it. Having recently purchased an iPhone 6 Plus, neither my phone, the smaller iPhone 6 or older iPhone 5 or 5S would fit in this ridiculously small pocket that doesn't even have a zipper or a hole for the headphone cable. I may have to have a seamstress add a functional pocket this summer.

Cannot stop wearing this jacket... Except when I start getting too hot. I could not wear other jackets with zipper vents in the arm pits. Couldn't get used to it. The one thing I don't like is that the jacket is actually a dark navy blue color. If it's navy blue, don't call it "jet black"

Made in China but the price of China is around USD500 in the outlet. Just reviewed the website and found discount of this down jacket, perfect, bought it and brought it back by my friend. Light, nice design, warm and be worth buying.
