Most Helpful Positive Review Terra Pants
I've tried a few brands and Montan's Terra pant is awesome. Lightweight, quick drying and durable. Pockets where you need them. Took them on a 3 week tour in Desolation Wilderness.
Most Helpful Negative Review Tired of high-water pants
Can we finally get a 34" - 36" inseam, PLEASE? Preferably with 34-36" waist, since many of us who trek are not prone to being overweight. The review instructions want me to write more but l have nothing else to say.

Great lightweight option

by Rick, Verified Owner from ID, United States Written on August 4, 2022
I wanted a fully-featured pair of "wind pants" and these meet most of my needs. They are light weight & packable; have adequate pockets (my iPhone SE fits into the thigh pocket), and seem reasonably durable. I usually wear a 36W x 32L and the XL fits just fine (although a little long). The legs are trim enough so that it is possible to watch my foot placement when I am on sketchy terrain. I plan on adding ankle zippers so that I can easily put them on/take them off without having to remove my shoes.
Pros:
  • Light & comfortable
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • A shell for wind, bugs, sun, cold (over a base layer)

The Best lightweight hiking pants!

by Dirt broke, from DC, United States Written on November 19, 2021
First, these are crazy light. I have the medium, regular length and they weigh roughly 9.8ozs. (which I'm 6'1 and have roughly a 30 inch waist and these were the best fit.. the waist band is somewhat elastic, and there's a belt for added tightening if needed. Huge zip pocket on the one leg above the knee. Great for all kinds of small gear or your wallet. Two hip pockets with a secret inner zip pocket on one side. Perfect for keys or money. Zip pocket on back butt .. these dry extremely fast if wet and are extremely durable.. I've hiked hundreds of miles through desert, and mountains on the pacific crest trail in these, taken falls, brushed up against manzanita trees, and these still have no tears or signs of ware. I've owned my first pair now for 3 years and they have been amazing! The fact they have so many built in pockets and adjustments (there's also buttons on the bottom of the pant legs if you wish to tightening those closed) make them my go to pants for all my outdoor adventures! They are a little pricey but if you wait for sales and use your coupons, you should be able to get these for 65 to 75 dollars. Not bad considering how much use you'll get out of them!
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • Pockets
  • Adjustability
  • quick drying
  • Easy care
Cons:
  • Cost
Best Used for:
  • HIKING
  • Outdoor activities
  • casual and everyday wear

Quality garment

by Ted, Verified Owner from BC, Canada Written on November 1, 2021
Great for summer, can't wait until next year to try it out. The fit and finish is typical Montane quality. Too bad there are no other colors to choose from at the time when bought.
Buy it now as they are on sale!

lightweight

by ARZ, Verified Owner from OR, United States Written on July 10, 2021
The main advantage is that they are very Lightweight. The side pocket a little small. They are quite comfortable. I agree with other reviews thighs are narrow and moving up one size larger means excess waist laxity but belt largely compensates.
Best Used for:
  • HIKING

Sticky with tiny pockets

by awds, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on July 4, 2021
Terrible pants. They are lightweight. The problem is that the inside liner is a sticky material which feels gross and leads to resistance when you raise your leg. The fabric has a negligible amount of stretch so the range of motion while wearing these pants is reduced. The pockets are so small and shallow that none of them can fit a 6inch phone and make me nervous storing my slim money clip in any of them. The slim money clip is just about to fall out from just sitting. Poor design and poor material. Avoid these pants.

Pants are light and breathable, but thighs tight

by Billy, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on May 9, 2020
Pants look good, have a slim fit, and are very breathable. But the thighs are far too tight for me (6”3, 195) and the pockets are very shallow. So I’m returning them to find something with deeper pockets and wider thighs. But for a slimmer person these would be excellent.

Bulletproof?

by Marshall F., Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on January 11, 2020
Outstanding. Been looking at trying these for awhile for long-distance hiking. Used a popular cycling sock for this with the same wool percentage but for upcoming thru-hike thought to try these as Ive used other darn toughs for just about everything else. Ive only been training in them, and kicking around casually, but there's no reason to think these won't be perfect for big adventures. Perfect thickness, good wicking/moisture control. Curious if Darn Tough will consider making them in lighter colors.
Pros:
  • perfect fit
Cons:
  • dark colors
Best Used for:
  • hiking, trail running, movie watching

Nice Pants...

by Marshall F., Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on January 11, 2020
...but I can't wear them. Well made, light, functional. Wanted a pair for a long time. Easily a great choice for others who may be a slim build. Waist and inseam are perfect but theyre not large enough in the thighs. Restrictive. A size larger for me would be sloppy in the waist so unfortunately I have to return them.
Pros:
  • Build quality
Cons:
  • too slim in the thighs
Best Used for:
  • skinny folks

Trek It Up with Montane

by TroutWhiskey, Verified Owner from MT, United States Written on June 15, 2018
Packable ultralight pants with smart pocket placement, articulated knees for ease of movement, a true size medium fit with a comfortable lightweight belt, and a button flap ankle adjustment to fit snug on my boots. I think these pants are some of the most functional trekking pants out there. You will be impressed with the extra comfortable waist band on long hikes, plus they just look good. I highly recommend these pants.
