Big Bang for the Buck

I was in the market for a new synthetic insulated mid/outer, ran across an INSANE sale here on the Kor Strata Hoody, pulled the trigger and hit the bullseye. This is an excellent jacket that may not deliver the "best in class" features of some of the others out there but it comes in at a price point that's far less expensive even at full retail.

I'd read that the jacket has a slim fit which makes sense given that its ability to act like a midlayer. But I had a specific need for this. I live in the mountains where night time temps are very rarely over 50 degrees in the summer so I was looking for something that would be suitable for trail to town. The Kor Strata doesn't have the techy look like so many others, which made it a perfect candidate, so I sized up to an XL given that I'm a solid Large in everything. Turned out to be way too big. Campsaver was SUPER solid with their return policy, got me the L quickly, and it was winner. Still not slim fitting though which was fine for me. Overall I'd say it's true to size.

The jacket is very lightweight, exceptionally comfortable, has a soft but a durable (so far) face, doesn't bind anywhere, has above average wind protection and also above average breathabiity. They struck a great balance. It does have below average rain protection but it's not really made for that. I've yet to apply DWR but will need to before the next season. It does handle snow well but wets out quickly in the rain although I've still remained pretty dry.
