This kettle/pot is well designed. The lid tab can either be folded down or slid over and locked in the upright position during cooking so you don't burn your finger tips trying to flick it up off the lid. You can pour without taking off the lid, but the opening is small enough that not much heat is lost during boiling. I did flip the handles around (wider part on top) for easier handling, but this might be a personal preference. I typically boil 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water and add my food to the pot. This pot is the perfect size for this
