Crazy Light, Crazy Functional

by Nick, from CA, United States Written on November 5, 2019
The Elite model of NEMO's Hornet tent exceeds expectations. Like everything from NEMO, the people making the products clearly have tested them and built them to suit what they need the tent to do. I don't backpack with trekking poles, so I needed a tent with poles and wanted to keep the weight as low as possible without sacrificing durability. For a tent that only weighs 2 pounds packed up, it really holds its own. I was a bit concerned since I read a negative comment about the durability of the tent but I've been nothing but impressed with how well this was built.
If you're looking for a highly technical tent for ultralight backpacking that doesn't require trekking poles to set up, I'd definitely recommend the Hornet Elite.

Extremely fragile

by cg5000, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on September 30, 2019
Upon using this tent for the very first time, I noticed a small tear right in the mesh at the seam where the support pull meets the tent pole. After a basic setup, it ripped a hole. Wish I could upload pics here to show you all. They really should have reinforced this region.

I got the runaround from both Campsaver and NEMO about this. They basically both told me to work with the other to get a replacement sent out. Nobody wanted to help. I would have hoped given it was brand new, within return time frame and definitely in warranty, somebody would have stepped up.

Looks like I need to now ship it to the manufacturer to have them "un-stitch" the panel and have them install a new piece of mesh. 2-3 weeks with no tent, plus shipping cost on my end.

When I bought this ultra light tent, I knew it was sensitive and needed to be treated with care, which I did. I even bought the footprint to protect it. I am super anal about my equipment and take very good care of my stuff.

Overall, I love the tent design and many of its features, BUT, in some areas, its just to fragile for any normal/practical type of use. Giving this tent a 2/5 star based on durability and manufacturer support.
