Most Helpful Negative Review Not Good For Hiking
After less than 20 miles of moderate hikes, I would never buy these again. Maybe these were better in previous years and got cheaper more recently. The upper material and forefoot sole are weak and soft. Also, the lacing system is bad/cheap. Fine tuning the fit and tightness with the laces is a real chore. Size is as expected and correct for me, but the boots give in too much and feet move / slide within the boots under duress. Overall stability and comfort is not good. OK in basic traction but if the sole is wet these can be very slick on log or rock surfaces. Forefoot sole is very weak, s...

decent value at the present sale price

These are 'light' hiking shoes (a little taller than a shoe, a little shorter than a mid-height hiking boot). Does not have the ankle stability or sturdiness of some mid-height light/medium backpacking boots. Feet may get a little tired feeling on long walks especially if you carry extra body weight or backpack weight. The leather upper and sole are a little flexible / thin and the leather gives in to the foot if pressured making these pretty much ready to go hiking right out of the box (not a lot of break in needed).

Forefoot sole is a touch flexible and soft for harder hiking but overall the boot has basic comfort. The sole seems to have pretty good traction with good tread depth. Ankle support is not that good but better than a regular hiking shoe. They cheapened the shoe making it a little less tall than a mid-height boot, did not provide a Vibram sole, thinner/lighter leather, not a lot of padding, and provided only 6 sets of material / non-metal lace holes (needs 7 sets). The lower 5 sets run through holes in the leather upper with no metal / grommets and not sure how they will hold up over time, but seem fine for now. The shoes do not feel like they would hold up well to regular long hard hiking, but it is not intended for that purpose, although it should handle some occasional tougher terrain. Stepping on hard roots or rocks with the forefoot is easily felt in the foot, and does not hurt, but could cause some discomfort and foot fatigue / soreness if regularly subje...

Great for light/moderate hiking and leisure casual wear!

by Mike, from MN, United States Written on August 2, 2021
I have been an Oboz fan for at least 15 years, owning several different models. I like the snugger heal and fit. They do tend to run somewhat narrower than other brands, but offer a Wide option with several models. I like the Sypes model for exceptional comfort, the look for casual wear, and enough ruggedness for light to moderate hiking. I own a pair of Oboz Biridgers I wear for more aggressive terrain.
Pros:
  • Comfort, great casual look, versatility.
Cons:
  • None for me
  • None for me.
Best Used for:
  • Light to moderate hiking, casual/leisure wear.
