I was considering purchasing the more expensive Atmos series equivalent volume backpack, but I decided I would purchase the Stratos for one key feature; the integrated rain cover. I know the Atmos has a more elaborate suspension system but it is rainy here in Costa Rica and really having this feature is quite advantageous. I have not tested this backpack yet, but I’ve owned and used for a couple of years a Stratos 34, and have hiked more than 10 miles with over 22 pounds on my back in the Stratos and I see no need for a more elaborate suspension than that of the Stratos. This is a newer versio...

Perfect size for carrying almost everything I need for a 2-3 day hiking trip. Took a bit to figure out how to pack properly as it comes with no instructions, and it could use a couple more tie points for adding on a sleeping mat, or possibly to tie on bulkier items outside the main pockets. Still it holds up well, and is quite comfortable even on a longer hike.

So far I’ve only been able to use this pack on one trip but it performed flawlessly. The size is great for 2-5 day trips depending on how you pack. I like the built in rain fly and large top access opening which uses a draw string to open and close. The sleeping bag compartment is functional for dirty clothes, bear canister, or shoes depending on your adventure. Just the right amount of stash pockets and the side mesh ones hold my travel mug & Nalgene no problem.

I'm 6'2 200# average build. Suspension height was adjustable and fit correctly. It looks nice feels like it is sturdily made.
First, this backpack felt a tad too narrow on my shoulders.
Second, the mesh panel has a different material on the outer edges. This gives it seams that pressed and rubbed into my back around my shoulder blades when I moved around.
Third, the hip belt is short and barely makes it over my iliac crest. This gives it a less comfortable feeling.
Fourth, pockets on the hip belt are small.
Conclusion, always try out a pack in person to make sure it fits you comfortably.
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
narrow
Best Used for:
weekend backpacking

I really like the Osprey pack systems. I already have the Stratos 36 and used as a carry on when traveling to/in Peru. This 50 will give me the ability to pack into some more remote areas with the things I will need. It fits great, feels good on the back and holds more essentials. I can handle the weight this will hold. Can't wait to hit the Red River Gorge for an over nighter.
