Excellent warmth-to-weight ratio

by Bruce S., from MI, United States Written on March 28, 2015
The windblocker layer adds a terrific warmth factor to this jacket. I wore a softshell over it one day which was totally unnecessary. Upper arms are snug, sleeve length is very generous. The cut of the body is pretty straight with some looseness from mid-torso to the bottom hem. This has become my go-to jacket for work day commutes and around the city in these late Winter, cold early Spring days.

This jacket really lives up

by Raymond A., Written on February 1, 2015
This jacket really lives up to the hype - it's super warm and wind proof. I've worn it outside on 22 degree nights in th NC foothills and was plenty warm. It has an athletic fit so I wouldn't recommend wearing heavy clothes underneath it. However, this coat is so warm, you wouldn't want to do that anyway.

Best Fleece I've had

by Nic, Written on May 5, 2014
This jacket has kept me warm in freezing temperatures, only needing a hat for my head. Otherwise, this fleece is quite thick, keeps the heat in, and the cold out. I've worn only a t-shirt underneath and been completely fine. Perfect fleece!

2013 Version has waste drawstring

by Scotty D, from MO, United States Written on May 5, 2014
Just got the jacket, so I can't attest to how warm it is (it's in the 20's out now so I'll be wearing some down), but I do want to note that they paid attention to comments - my jacket has a drawstring at the waist. It's an absolutely gorgeous jacket, but it fits pretty tight so if you wear a lot of bulky stuff under you may want to go with a size up. I'm 5'10 and 140lbs, and wear a small patago

Patagonia R4 Jacket

by MarathonBob, Written on December 12, 2013
Very happy with purchase. I originally ordered a small but had to return it for the medium- the sizing guide isn't accurate in my mind. I'm 5' 6" with a 38" chest and the small was too tight around my chest - it was sized better for a 36" chest. The materials, fit and finish and look and feel are great. It's a great jacket.

Boxy fit

by Brian B., from CA, United States Written on September 10, 2013
While this jacket is warm and does indeed cut the wind, it's cut a little wide at the waist. In contrast to the R3 Hi-Loft fleece, which fits closely, this jacket is a bit boxy and without a drawcord at the hem, you're left looking kind of like an A-frame and heat loss is probably inevitable, particularly in the wind.

Solid Fleece

by Twigs, Written on September 10, 2013
All around solid fleece. Two things that I am not crazy about though. 1.) No drawstring at the waist. 2.) Mesh pockets.
