Perfect piece for active moving, sheds wind, snow and some water. Rab's STS Matrix material is uber-durable, it is very thin, silky smooth and stretchy and can be worn right next to your skin, but at the same time uber-durable: one of the best fabrics I've ever worn, really. Handjamming in the granite cracks, rusty ski edges, all combinations of rough velcro-buckle hot spots ... no SIGNS (!). For the prev version of Borealis (known as Boreas) the seams was the weak spot, as there were exposed and peeled immediately, but seams are all hidden in the current gen Borealis. Perfect I this is what you’re expecting

by Tim L., Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on November 20, 2021
Very nice lite softshell jacket which can be worn alone as a summer jacket to throw in the pack or for winter over an insulator. It zips up nice and high for good wind protection and keeping the hood on snug and love the large chest pockets placed in the right spot for wearing i5 with a pack. If you plan on wearing this alone with just a thin base layer then your normal size will be more fitted athletic, go up a size if you want it to be a little more versatile with other gear. I’m 6’2” 180lbs athletic build and the XL fits just the way I like it.
Pros:
  • Long sleeve length
  • Big chest pockets
  • Zips up high
Cons:
  • A little pricey
Best Used for:
  • Backpacking
  • HIKING
  • biking
  • spring skiing

Awesome lightweight jacket

by ShoeKing, from UT, United States Written on April 27, 2018
I really like the versatility of this jacket! It fits really well, I went with my typical size and it is comfortably loose without being baggy - helpful when wearing a pack or climbing harness. Pockets are placed for better access when wearing pack/harness, and the lining is mesh so they can also act as additional venting. The overall look of the jacket makes it nice to wear around town when the weather calls for it. All the colors are good, I really like the Steel.
Pros:
  • Fit
  • Breathability
  • Stretchy
  • looks good
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • climbing
  • Backpacking
  • HIKING
  • Everyday

Great warm-weather jacket!

by Braiden, from UT, United States Written on April 3, 2018
I just got this jacket and it's exactly what I expected. A very lightweight softshell for warm weather. Perfect for a cool morning or evening. It has a great stretch that is perfect for climbing. It runs pretty true to size, I'm 5' 10'' and about 170 and I got a Large to allow for a roomier fit in case I wanted to wear it over another layer. I tried on a medium which fit me well if I wanted it as a standalone piece. I really like the green color!
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • QUALITY
  • attractive
  • Stretch
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Casual
  • Climbing and hiking
