I'm using the Inferno Shield hooded parka as a belay jacket and find it even warmer than I'd expected for it's 80/60 g insulation weight , most likely due to the additional wind resistance of the Pertex Shield breathable waterproof shell. The fit is accurate and generously cut tho one must consider that Rab uses Euro/Unisex sizing. By upsizing one size I cam comfortably wear a medium-heavy down jacket beneath it without compressing the loft in the body or arms. Inferno Shell

The Inferno Shell jacket isn't bad. Warmth is decent. If you layer, then it will keep you pretty warm but if worn by itself, it won't keep you warm below 45. Seems rather waterproof/water resistant. Sleeve run a little long but the worst part is the neck when it's fully zipped up. It does seem a bit tight when zipped and rubs on your chin and the zipper is too stiff to roll/flip the top of the neck over. You can however roll the built-in hood down and it becomes a collar. Overall the quality is good but the fit (neck) can be improved on.

Great Jacket

This is a great jacket. When I first took it out of the bag I thought it was very thin and might be cold. I could not have been more wrong. It's light, comfortable and very warm. It is wind and waterproof. It has a several smart features that set it apart from the rest. The fleece lining over the top of the zipper so the zipper doesn't hit you in the face is just one example. The double zipper is also nice when sitting. I normally wear a large but got the XL in due to the UK sizing.

Excellent, but...

A great jacket, really well-made and perfectly sized for my 6'1", 180 frame, but the cinches on the inside of the of the hood dug into my cheekbones, and ended up being enough of a reason for me to very reluctantly return it. Otherwise excellent, though, and fantastic for the long and lean.

wet winter coat

I was looking for an insulated coat to wear for cold, snowy winters in Colorado. Bought the Rab for the synthetic insulation, the Pertex Shield shell and the adjustable hood and cuffs. One issue is the main zipper - this is a shorter jacket length and it has an unnecessary two way zipper that is very difficult to zip up. Concerned about durability.

This is definitely the nicest, most practical and effective belay jacket I've ever used, especially in soggy wet-cold conditions hovering at the freezing point- highly recommended!
