Had to move on from an older softshell. This coat is thicker and rigid but is great when you are out on colder days. The fit is a bit tight in the shoulder/armpit area and I am not too muscular in that area. However the coat, cuff and collar length is a huge benefit to keep the heat in. Rab does have more of a European cut to thier coats but I have found they are quite durable including this one.
Pros:
Robust
Deep pockets
Sleeve and collar length
Cons:
Compaction
Areas of tightness
Best Used for:
MOUNTAINEERING
ski touring
winter hiking
Skiing, backcountry winter sports
Would recommend: Yes

I decided to switch to a soft-shell based system for skiing this year and after some research settled on the Rab Upslope. Coming from the UK I've got Rab gear that's over a 10 years old and still going strong so finding a snow-sports oriented soft-shell from Rab was perfect.
I've worn the jacket for a few outings this season, pairing it with a merino base layer and a mid-weight Rab Nucleus Hoody fleece and that combination kept me perfectly warm night skiing at 20F and I will switch the fleece for a Rab primaloft jacket when it gets too cold for the fleece.
A couple of negatives about the jacket, 1. the arm holes are quite small so I find I need to wear more fitted garments underneath to avoid feeling like I'm trying to stuff a quart into a pint pot. 2. The upper arm pocket, which is obviously intended for a lift pass, doesn't have any kind of loop or tether inside to attach your pass to.
Overall though this is a really nice jacket that should last me a good many years, and I can rest assured that if I do have problems then Rab's excellent customer service will be there.
Pros:
QUALITY
Construction
Cons:
arm hole fit
Best Used for:
Snow sports
