Most Helpful Positive Review Best Lightweight Option
After reading many reviews for a lightweight warm jacket I went with the Xenon X hoodie. I just spent a week I the mountains with temps hovering around the mid to low 30 degrees and I am glad to report that with nothing more than a t-shirt and this jacket I was warm! This trip was a vacation and by no means humping gear in the wilderness but a sight seeing trip to the concrete jungle. I am happy with my decision to purchase this item...can't go wrong. For what it is why I am 5'-10" 180 lbs.

Rab Xenon X

by R, from OR, United States Written on August 6, 2019
Great jacket, very fast shipping. Arm length is longer than most comparable jackets. At 5ft8in the small has the right length arms, but feels too tight around the bottom of the jacket and in the arm pits. I usually wear a small in Patagonia, Mountain Hardware, and Arc’teryx sizes for reference.

the 60 gram insulation piece

by Vermaine, Verified Owner from VT, United States Written on February 8, 2018
this jacket hits all the technical specs you want out of a 60g synthetic insulation piece. it is perfect year round. summer through fall it can function as a belay jacket. winter its perfect layering piece in the arsenal. the pertex blocks wind and precip, and the jacket dries out very quickly. packs down small to nalgene or smaller type size, weighing only a couple ounces more than the 300 dollar new patagonia micropuff, and burlier material as well.

only limitation is that this jacket does not breathe very well - which is the point - it blocks wind and rain, and holds in heat. if it is cold enough for me to be wearing this jacket while moving, i'm most likely moving pretty slow, or it is really cold, or both most likely. example would be approaching an alpine ice climb - approaching in base layer and wind shirt. base of climb, strip wet layer, throw on fresh layers and this coat. if really cold and or seconding a climb ie not working super hard, i'll keep this on. if leading, or hard climbing, take it off and pack it down and clip to harness or in pack..
Pros:
  • everything
Cons:
  • breathability
Best Used for:
  • summer through fall belay jacket, winter layering piece

My favorite jacket

by DSM, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on November 1, 2017
This is easily the warmest and lightest jacket I've ever owned. I've used it since last year to commute by bicycle in cold weather and sit on cold trains for 45 minutes at a time. This jacket keeps me so warm, it's almost like it has an internal heater. The quality is excellent and after months of use there are no signs of deterioration. The jacket also keep me perfectly dry when it rains during my 20 minute bike commute, and dries out quickly when I hang it up on the train. It packs down into a small ball that I can shove into my backpack quickly and easily. I also like that it's a synthetic because I like the idea of moving away from animal product use and also not getting feathers everywhere. I honestly can't think of any cons.

The best

by DSM, from CA, United States Written on December 16, 2016
The jacket is lightweight and so warm. It's water/weather resistant. I've been using it to bicycle commute in the winter wind and rain and it's kept me dry and warm (I just wear a dress shirt underneath). I would use a light shell if I was going to use it in heavy rain for a prolonged period of time though. I haven't tried it in snowy conditions yet, but I can tell it would keep me plenty warm under most circumstances, especially if I wore warm base layers.

I'm 5'7", 145-150 lbs and the small fits excellent. The jacket itself looks great.the pockets are comfy and warm and zip up. The waist can cinch if you need a tight fit.

Good as its ratings.

by Robert W., from CA, United States Written on December 4, 2016
Love this jacket. Note the Rab Xenon X Hoodies run a little big and the zipper is european style but easy to get used to. Haven’t got it in the backcountry yet but it has been great on chilly evening walks in town. I am expecting it to live up to its great reviews.
