The Kailash seems to have more mixed reviews than I'd expect, but I have tried on dozens and dozens of hiking boots and they remain my favorite. I've owned a couple pairs. The GTX is still 100% waterproof in the first pair I bought 4 years ago, and durability is about average...any boot with stitching on the side will give out sooner than an all-leather boot with no stiching. I guess they stiffened up the mid-sole in 2014 and later models...I notice maybe a 10% difference over the first pair I purchased. It's a true mid-weight boot...could be used for light packs, and great for trekking and hard-core offtrail scrambling. Soles have great traction an durability. They are on the narrow side, and they run small for sure, so start off a size larger than you would otherwise and go from there. Arch support is minimal, which I prefer for my foot...which always allows for custom insoles to provide the desired support.
