These boots are great. Basically no break in period and the grip on trails is great! I love these boots. I wish the outer wasn't suede, but its easy to clean and scratches don't show as easily as smooth leather. They fit great and are very comfortable. Hiking loaded they provide great support but aren't uncomfortably stiff.
The Kailash seems to have more mixed reviews than I'd expect, but I have tried on dozens and dozens of hiking boots and they remain my favorite. I've owned a couple pairs. The GTX is still 100% waterproof in the first pair I bought 4 years ago, and durability is about average...any boot with stitching on the side will give out sooner than an all-leather boot with no stiching. These have been the most comfortable boots I've owned right out of the box. Very little break-in time was required and kept me dry even on a ten miler with MANY stream crossings on a day with constant pouring rain! The support and comfort these give you at the same time is amazing. Definitely going to stick with Scarpa from now on.
Backpacker Editors Choice for 2008 & everyone raved about this boot, so I tried them. I've worn a 13M for over 20 years. I wore it around the house for few minutes, and took it straight to Mt. Dickerman in the North Cascades (elevation gain of about 4000 feet). My feet felt very comfortable, stable, and secure. Although it was a super hot day, my feet did not get super sweaty. No blisters or major issues at the end of the hike. No break-in was needed.
This boot performs better than any I've had of its type. Great ankle support and overall durability. Good for all 4 seasons and doesn't dissapoint when you put it to the test.
