Most Helpful Positive Review Light and compact water boiling genius(ness)
As a newbie to the canister stove world, I had no idea where to start when looking at models. I've been using the same Whisperlite for 20 years, and a Svea back to the mid 80's so I was a bit reluctant to change. Hiking Jim at adventuresinstoving.blogspot.com got me up the learning curve very quickly. Why get a canister stove? I wanted something super-light and compact for day-hikes and climbs in colder weather when carrying my Whisperlite would be too bulky and heavy. Among canister options I was only able to field-test the MSR Reactor - an absolute beast of a stove that can boil water f...

Good stove

by GoBucks, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on May 6, 2022
I decided to give this stove a try to replace an older, slightly heavier canister stove I have had for several years. The Amicus generally received high praise for its wind resistance, without even needing a screen. I have only been able to use it a handful of times for a few short trips so far, but at this point I am impressed and have had no issues with the flame; seems to heat as well as one would expect, but will have to wait and see if it can genuinely deny high wind situations. Initial impression is good however, and it seems very well built.
Pros:
  • Simple to operate, well made, lightweightght
Cons:
  • None

Great stove

by Kistarr, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on November 18, 2020
I used this stove all summer for camping trips - I love it! You need to buy the kerosene separately. The stove stores easily into its included bag, is very easy to light, and heats water quickly. It takes me about 10 minutes to make french press coffee with this stove.

Soto Amicus stove has a recessed head

by anan, Verified Owner from DE, United States Written on February 15, 2020
Soto Amicus stove has a recessed head
It has a shape of a mortar-cutter that reduces the influence of the wind to a minimum.
It maintains a strong firepower.
Soto Amicus is the real thing.
It's one of the best equipment I've ever bought.
The part that adjusts the gas volume is also folded and unfolded.
Makes things sense well.
A disadvantage is an expensive price

Very Reliable

by AG, from TX, United States Written on January 18, 2019
I have owned a Soto for 3 years. I have used it in 20 degree temps. The igniter worked everytime and I have never had a problem lighting it in high winds. It was a bit pricy, but, I was so happy with it’s performance, I bought a 2nd one as a backup and to share with backpacking buddies.

Great little stove that boils fast and weighs almost nothing. Strong and stable pot arms. Well built and feels very quality. Interesting and innovative design makes me wonder what everyone else is thinking sticking with the traditional style burner. This is far superior!
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • QUALITY
  • wind resistant
Cons:
  • Needs a case for safe keeping
  • Too small for a large group
Best Used for:
  • Ultralight backpacking
