Eric's Review of Ultimate Direction AK Mountain Vest 3.0

I've had this vest for about 3 months now and have used it extensively for trail running and hiking. Fit: I am 5'10 and 170 lbs and went with the Medium. Fits good over a t-shirt or light jacket with a few inches of adjustability left to synch it down. If you are going to use it in the winter over multiple layers or a puffy - may consider going up a size. I like to run with trekking poles (BD Trail Pro) and love how easy it is to attach them without stopping. The softbottles in the front work well, have minimal bounce and don't chafe or rub. There are several pockets in the front for easy access items - phone, gels, bars..etc. The side pockets are hard to access while you are wearing the vest. The mesh pocket in the back is great for carrying an extra layer or gloves/ hat. The volume is listed at 11 L - perfect for storing lighter items for a run or hike. The vest is very lightweight and the frame/harness is not designed for heavier items like camera equipment or a climbing rack. My only complaint is that I sweat a lot and the back panel of the vest is mesh - so if your back gets sweaty, whatever you are carring in the main compartment of the vest can absorb the moisture. This can be annoying if your extra layer gets sweaty. In cold weather I've also noticed that it is possible to get condensation inside the main compartment. Not a huge complaint - more just an annoyance that comes with the territory of using ultra lightweight materials.
