I’ve had this thing for around five years and used it dozens of times, both at home and while camping. It’s large, so you can cook bacon and eggs for a crowd or several steaks. You can stirfry in it and since the sides are high, the food won’t fly out. Non-stick coating

Q what is supposed to go into the holes on the sides of the griddle plate? How do you lift the plate up when it's hot?

You could put some metal handles in if you would like. They do not come with such. You would use the two handles on the side with hot pads to lift it when hot. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q Is this item comapatible white fireplace large ?

It's a little smaller than the large fireplace width wide, but is definitely long enough to stay on lengthwise. It won't be a perfect fit, but you can make it work.
