I got this steri pen a few weeks ago for my elk hunt and it worked amazing. Low maintenance and extremely affordable, I would recommend it to anyone. It beats packing around a filter and hoses any day. It purifies in seconds and nobody in camp got sick. Thanks camp saver!

I haven't tested it yet. I co tacted Steri Pen about warranty and what on it is water proof. No response on warranty and the top is not waterproof. Warranty is supposedly on Steri Pen website, but for this model it isn't. Also have a question about how do you get past the bad stuff on inside/outside rim of bottle/cup?

This does a great job of purifying water, since it gets rid of viruses as well as all the other problems in the water. It is small and light weight. Great for backpackers.

I purchased the SteriPen from Campsaver on a significant sale. I recently returned from a recent 4 day hike and used it throughout. I did not get sick, but I also pumped with a purifier and from a mountain spring most of the time. It is comforting to have the added level of purification.

I have tested this using my tap water and the light works. I did follow the intructions, charged it fully, etc. Since I have not tried purifying anything else yet I am not sure if this will keep me safe. I will update my review once I've ventured out in questionable places and try it then. 4 will have to suffice for now.
From SteriPEN's site: Misconception 5: SteriPEN Doesn’t Eliminate Microorganisms on the Threads, Rim or Lids of Bottles
Microorganisms in such small levels are rarely dangerous, however, this issue can be addressed by simply drying the water off the lid, rim and threads of the bottle with a towel, bandana, etc.
