"The Louis Garneau Blizzard II snowshoes are extremely comfortable due to the padded Contact Harness that surrounds and cradles your feet, while the glove- & mitten-friendly Boa closure system provides even pressure all the way around your foot to prevent pinching or loose spots. These snowshoes feel like they're part of your feet, and make for effortless off-trail maneuvering through trees and rocks. Just remember that there are 18 inches of snowshoe behind you! The huge toe crampons bite deeply into both packed and powdery snow, while the V-shaped heel crampons provide excellent braking on downhills and traverses. Flotation is provided by the tough decking material, which Garneau claims remains flexible down to -40. I wasn't able to test that claim with this wimpy winter, but I did subject it to more than its share of branches and rocks poking it with no holes or tears. The heel lifter is easy to raise and lower by hand or with the handgrip of your trekking poles, and stays locked securely in the raised position. It makes extended ascents easier on the calves and, perhaps more importantly, puts more weight on the toe & heel crampons for increased traction. I absolutely recommend the Blizzard II snowshoes to take you anyplace you want to go in comfort, safety, and security. They even look good!"
