Comments about Guides Down Hoody - Men's:

I was cautiously optimistic when I bought this jacket. It was on sale, and it looked good and the reviews were pretty good.
I bought it for the coldest of days in Maine. Well, it's cold this week, and sure enough this jacket is now my go-to jacket for cold weather. It's in the teens this week, and with a compression base layer and a light sweater I was almost too warm when walking around in 17 degree weather. So I am confident that it will be great in colder weather than this.
I am a fan of Arcteryx, but the reviews on their down jackets were not what I wanted to hear (down popping through the seams) so I looked at this one. This jacket does not have that issue, and for the price I paid (sale) I am stoked!
If you are looking for warm when it's cold, don't hesitate to buy this. It is not a trim fit, but it is not overly baggy either. Great functionality to everything about this jacket. It is not waterproof, but stands up to light rain. The ONLY complaint I might have is that I don't yet understand the draw strings for the hood. It might just be me, but they don't seem to make sense how they were engineered. Not the most convenient in synching them. But that is a very minor picky issue. Buy this jacket! Great job Marmot!!

Comments about Guides Down Hoody - Men's:

I bought a guides down hoody from campsaver website two years ago. Originally I was quite disappointed because despite the relatively high price, there are down leaking from the jacket on a regular basis. I thought about returning it, but decided to keep it.

This turned out to be a wise decision. This jacket is very warm, as it keep me well insulated in temperature around -18 or -20 (translate to 0 in Fahrenheit). I have other jackets, and none of them are as warm as this one. The construction is also solid, as it kept intact after two years. Now there are no more down leaking, and overall wearing it is a comfortable experience. I should also mention that the hand warming pockets are great; they save me a pair of gloves in not so cold days.

Now for the deficiencies. The draw strings in the hood and in the waist are difficult to use; after you pull them from one side, they do not lock in position and has a tendency to bounce back easily. The hood is designed with a hat or helmet in mind, hence often seems too large for the purpose for windproofing - wind just rush through my face. I also wish it come with a compressing sack, which can be useful when I am travelling around.

Despite all these flaws, it is still one of the best down jackets I ever had. So I bought it again this year for my parents, and I am confident it will last them for a long time as well.

Comments about Guides Down Hoody - Men's:

This jacket is defnitely warm for it's weight but unless you are guiding outdoor museum tours or something equally low-key then this isn't the jacket for you. I expected fabric more along the lines of the Marmor Shadow, which I've had for two years and have yet to rip a hole in. I'm a pretty aggressive outdoors-person, bushwacking and skiing through tight trees, etc. This "Guide" Jacket would get torn in a day. I don't even think you could chimney in it, maybe on polished limestone..but where would you be doing that?

          About Marmot

In April 1971, Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in Alaska's Juneau Icefield where the idea of a Marmot Club began. The name 'Marmot' refers to a group of highly social, large ground squirrels that live in mountainous areas. To become a Marmot, you had to climb a glaciated peak with another Marmot. That summer and over the next two years, Eric and Dave began making prototypes of down products in their dorm room in addition to establishing the Marmot Club. Marmot has grown quite a bit, but one thing has never changed: the commitment to designing the highest quality performance product. Marmot has become widely recognized as one of the premier outdoor gear and clothing brands in the world today.
