Enough for everything you'll need on a day hike - not an overnight unless you are a real minimalist. I purchased this in late December and used it for the first time in early January for a 3 hour hike. It was very, very comfortable. The pack has many different sized pockets and storage areas. This bag is great for day hiking. It is super lightweight and very comfortable. The waistbelt and straps do not rub and distribute the weight really well, so you can walk comfortably for miles. I use this backpack for day hikes, and it is awesome. The pack is really lightweight, so you only feel the weight of the stuff you put in it. The hydration bladder has its own compartment, which is nice. The material on the back of the back is super stretchy so you can carry almost whatever you want that will fit. I used this pack for the first time on a camping trip to the presidential mountains in NH. I used it specifically for climbing Rumney one day and hiking Mt. Adams. It fit all my climbing gear perfectly (adding the helmet was kind of tight but with some more readjustment I'm sure it would've been great).
