Product Info for Helle Viking Knife

The Helle Viking knife is a revision of a Helle classic. The original Viking was designed by Arne Emile Christensen, a professor with the University Museum of National Antiquities in Oslo, as a recreation of a Viking Age belt knife. The knife was produced as a part of a fund-raiser for an around-the-world cruise of a Viking longship. The knife is notable not only for it's historical interest, but also as an excellent all around utility knife. The black finish of the heat treatment is left on the sides for a rustic look.

Different in a very cool kind of way

I really like the design of the knife. It was based on examples of Viking knives which is cool since they lived bushcraft before it became a fad. The wood handle has a nice linseed oil smell just like my Scandinavian axes handles. The knife comes with a sharp scandi grind and a pleasing pukko style leather sheath. The Helle Viking is very simple in style (historical information is available on it extensively online). I found mine to be very sharp, well made though the grind on the blade was a little off. I like simple, natural knives and this was just perfect for me.

It's a pretty nice knife

I've only had it out once so far, but it feels like a sold knife for general purpose camp use. I wouldn't use it to baton wood though. The only thing I really didn't like was the black coating on the blade. It easily runs off on everything. But a few minutes with a scotch bright pad and some mineral oil had the excess cleaned off and still left a nice patina on the blade.

I am Norwegian in descent and have collected “old” style Viking knives for some time. This will be a great addition to my collection. Excellent quality that matches the others in my collection. Quite sharp although not as sharp as some that I have in stash. My hobby is sharpening but i don’t mess with the collectible knives. Great product that I am very happy to own.
