Yes, the Hydration Engines that are available now are the 2nd generation.

What is the better attachable filter for this reservoir for NE USA, typical mountain stream/lake water? The regular in-line or the in-line virus? Is the virus overkill for my use? Will the regular one do the job at providing safe drinking water?

In the US, we don't typically have to worry about getting a virus from the water. You should be just fine with the In-line filter, not the Virus filter.

What are the dimensions of the Bag for the 2l and for the 3l? Trying to decide which would fit best.

Dimensions are 7 x 12 in for the 2L and 7 x 16 in for the 3L.

The selection provided are 1.5L and 3L. I don't see 1.5L version in official geigerrig website..do you mean 2L ? or it is actually 1.5L? please confirm.Thanks.
