Aaaargh in between sizes!!!!!

Written on Sep 17, 2020

I love this item; can't wait to be out and about camping in the Rockies this winter with it.
I wear a 43 (because US sizes vary so much; I have completely skipped the whole ~am I a 8.5? 10? 9? 9.5? mess of variation); and just go with a 43. And usually with a Spenco insole for the cushion my 300,000 mile military retiree body enjoys.

My Lowa's are "8.5 UK, 42.5 EU, 9.5 US, and 274mm" all on the same tag (none of these line up vertically on the sizing chart; that says A LOT). They fit great with the three layer Spenco inside of them.

I also like the neoprene insole for the added insulation from the ground during winter. Brrrr. Cold from below! Seems to push the sizing I need to an additional 1/2 size.

Right now; the M fits great. No insole yet. A little room at the toes; and the heel is ok too.

Haven't put on the L that I also ordered; and yeah. No insole yet.

I can't think of a reason to buy any other model of the Booties. The added build quality from the heel cup; and the Gore product; and the gaitor-esque aspect of this model simply overwhelms any need or want to even try the other models. And I've had the regular booties for several years now.

Can't recommend this product enough. Oh; I'm not endorsed/sponsored/whatevered either. I pay for my stuff.

Only grip is that ultimately; once I do put in my Spencos (again, for the cushion and insulation value); I am pretty certain I am going to be at that Arrrgghhhhhhh!!!!!!! where the M is just a

Very well; very smooth; nice case too...

Written on Jun 10, 2018

I wish I would have bought this for the camping kit way earlier; the fit into my hand is great; good shape on the spoon; and the knife does well too. If I wanted too; it would blade up nicely if needed.
They wipe down easily with or without water - the finish is smooth; but not so smooth as to be slippery. Slippery as in wtf it's cold and I can't hang on to anything because it's cold slippery. Just enough texture to be 'grippable'; yet to also be cleaned up easily. Bullseye finish points achieved!
Probably the first of several sets for gifts and greetings; like most Snow Peak items; first you buy one; then you find yourself gifting three.
Price always holds me back at first; but then the quality fit finish and actually made in a 1st world country wins be over big time
Highly recommended.

Classy; functional; titanium; and more Snow Peak goodness...

Written on Apr 01, 2018

Glad I bought these; finally. Been wanting a nice titanium spoon and fork set for a while; and made it happen. Away from home as I am; these work great in the room with take out from the local chow hall / mess hall. They clean up nicely too; a few wipes with a napkin and they are good to go. Good ergonomic shape; so the fit form function aspect works too. I've had noodles with them, steak, salad, and well; that about covers most food shapes textures that a person will encounter; and they did great.

Quality case to store them in; they store into it as well after day 20 as they did after day one.

More Snow Peak goodness.

Easily forgotten once the problem is solved; I am *no* longer having to use waste and throw away plastic utensils after every meal! Big win.

-not compensated endorsed sponsered free etc etc blah blah blah bought and paid for with my own dime fwiw. /r/ Al

I like it.

Nice mug; standard issue for the times; Snow Peak seems to have been first to the double wall titanium game; and Soto has now been in the field for a few years. Thickness of the double wall seems a mm or so greater than the comparable Snow Peak 450ml; and the exterior has a slightly less polished finish to it. The touch more tack to the exterior will probably make it easier to grip with a mitten or glove; being an outdoor junkie myself; this is not a bad thing.

Made in Japan fwiw; always appreciate that touch of craftsmanship too.

I'm a big fan of the Helix combo part too - the coffee filter part, that neatly wound and sprung wire part. Says to use a #2 filter; those can be hard to find; I get #4's, kinda shape them into a bowl with my hands and more or less drop them in. Works great; just avoid the temptation to fill above the rim; if you overfill; and it overflows; well... that's how fluids work, right? Avoid a possible mess. Let the filter do its thing, be patient; and don't overfill. Works every time.
Third Helix; I'll say it. I've got one in the VW camper, one in the home, and here I am; on the road; travelling, and yup. Morning fresh brew is being filtered courtesy of a Helix. Just call me fancy; I like to roll that way.

Stuff sack that came with it all is doing great too. Doing great back home with a thin wall pair of Marmot PreCip pants rolled up and stored in it; neatly hanging off of a hook. I call a nice stuff sack like that 'bonus'. Yes; I'm sur

Well that's nice!

First thought to go through my feeble mind as it slid out of the box; it is encased in a pretty reasonably heavy duty fitted nylon case. Neat, pretty neat. What this means is it is not going to slice a backpack open when a person takes it on a picnic, nor is it going to emerge covered in gunk which so many VW camper bins seem to attract. Especially the nasty diesel ones. I swear I feel like I'm driving an oil well at times. OK, back to the table. It might not be a bad idea to run some 400 grit sandpaper around the edges, or give it a good feel around in a home environment first. I did not feel any sharp edges, and there were no burrs either. That being said; it's made out of extruded aluminum; and even the best of mills can leave a burr after a few hundred cycles. NO it is NOT going to slice your arm open. Might nick a pinky or something; this is just a standard warning about anything made out of metal!

Back to the sack itself. I like stuff that makes items easy to put away and store; and more so when it also happens to be of a grade that will be around for, well, honestly; unless I decide to drag this behind my camper van, it will very likely be another item my child will be camping around with in ten or so years. As it is now with him being five years old, I'm going to call it another folding toy for him to play with.

What an excuse to buy more and more camping stuff - but honey; it's for the kid! Have to see how well that works.

So, along my journey towards

Ah, every Five star traveler and camper's need; all in a finely pressed form.

Written on Dec 13, 2017

Not sure how they press these out; not to mention do so without any gaps. That being said; me being me; when I travel. Or camp; I, I do it in style.
At the home, or lodge as I am now; I am quite happy to be replacing the OMG Styrofoam cups with my 300ml mug here. So that 300ml is equal to a little over 10 ounces for the metrically challenged. Anyhow; fits right well under the Keurig maker that the room has, and it seems to be having no problems with being aware that a cup is present and ready to be filled with brew. Can't say I'm a Keurig fan one way or another; but for the purposes of that should need or economy of saving the planet via lessening the disposable waste of the standard issue hotel room 10 oz. Styrofoam cup; there you go. Waste upon the planet lessened; all thanks to a titanium double walled made in Japan wonderment. Picture fine Samurai sword; taken form as a mug perhaps. Hmmmm.

Not an inexpensive item at near $50; on the other hand; If I've ever wasted near $50 in a worse manner; this mug will never ever ever never fall upon that particular list. Kudos for it being made in Japan, and by Snow Peak. Publicly traded company for the investment oriented of us, YMMV on that aspect of life pursuits. So, a little more money by a company of extremely high repute and reputation. Well and properly priced IMHO.

So, not wanting to text wall our Campsaver review space here; so anyhow; this thing is going into my travel bag. Small, works well; and I won't b

Second pair around, really well with these shoes indeed.

Written on Dec 13, 2017

Like the title reads; this is my second pair. After three or four years of primarily using these as a totally (Totally!) bombproof cycle-cross shoe; and with a good bit of conventional wear mixed in there (They are leather = clean them up; brush on some mink-oil; and ta-da! Instant leather class to wear to a business meeting/family gathering/etc.) and hiking; they finally began to show their age.

They are made in Slovakia; I like that because it is not a 3rd world hecl hole; and Lowa itself is out of Germany. It means A LOT to me that my purchase is being produced by adults, as in people that have homes and families just like most of us do. YMMV; I have no problem paying more for an item that is produced by a fairly waged group of employees.

I have not had a single stitch come loose. I own two pairs of mid-quarters, and this pair of low quarters. That says a lot about the quality. And excuse my language; I beat the heck out of my my feet via rocks, old school toe straps on teethy pedals, and about anywhere in Colorado (rocks, rocks, more rocks).

What did wear after putting them on and off ???? 2,000+ times? The felt around the cuff. That is NO big deal. They still do great; probably replaced more due to wanting to have a second pair ready as compared to actually wore out type of issue.

I've never had the Gore-tex lining fail me; I certainly don't pass time in the water; but with a 100+ low water stream crossings and good old fashioned walk across the puddle typ
