Ummm, Really good boots!

Written on Jan 03, 2019

These boots fit true to size with minimal break-in required. They are very comfortable and have a great lug sole. Contrary to the other review; however, they are not abnormally heavy. I know this because I have many pairs of hiking boots that ARE heavy! There are probably only two potential 'cons' to these boots. One - they aren't waterproof, but I suppose since they are labeled as a 'casual' boot, that shouldn't really be a 'con'. The other might be price, as they could be considered a bit spendy to some people out there. But Campsaver tends to have 20% off sales multiple times per year, so that helps in that regard. Great Hanwag quality shows in these boots.

Competition for Under Armour?

Written on Aug 30, 2018

I gave these a try because they were on sale, and they are really pretty nice. The fabric is 'cool', yet different from Under Armour's normal fare. If you like the 'boxer-jock' type of wear, these are definitely worth a look.

A Good Multi-tool

Written on Sep 10, 2017

I like the multitude of integrated tools - could probably build a house with it in a pinch (might take forever, but . . . .)! The only 'con' (and the reason I only gave it 4 stars) is that this is a SMALL hatchet-sized tool, and nowhere near an 'axe'. I'm not sure if it's a marketing ploy to make it sound like it is larger than it really is, or if the person writing it didn't know what an axe actually is. I actually went back to the description and it doesn't say anywhere how big it is, which may or may not be intentional. Without actually measuring it, I can tell you it is probably less than 13 inches in total length. Good product, but Small.

Salewa - All good, all the time!

Ankle protection, Vibram sole, waterproof, comfortable, fit true to size, quality construction - the only thing I can't comment on yet is long-term durability. Worth the price - even better if you can get them on sale!

Nice!

I like these boots - they are like high-tops only better, because they are waterproof. They fit true to size. UA makes some good-looking boots, unfortunately for me, they make TOO MANY styles of good-looking boots! I have multiple pairs, and haven't had a problem with any of them. With these on sale, it's a great buy!

Quality all-around

Written on Apr 15, 2017

These are some of the best hiking boots I have - they just ooze quality. Fit was great right out of the box and they are very comfortable to wear - even to the office. I have not taken them on a seriously abusive hiking trip yet - they seem almost too nice to intentionally try to abuse them!

Pretty nice boot!

Written on Apr 06, 2017

This is almost a perfect boot. The styling is good (in my opinion), the fit is true to size, and like most all Hoka footwear, the comfort is exceptional. I have not had a chance to check the waterproofing yet. The ONLY bad thing I can say about this boot is the lacing. It's kind of like old-school tennis shoe lacing, where you have to pull all the laces tight, then tie the shoes. When you want to take them off, you have to manually loosen the laces before you can remove them. It makes for a good fit; however, it's just some extra fiddling with the laces that you don't have to do on most hiking boots nowadays. With a better lacing system, it would easily be a 5-star boot.

Decent boots

Written on Oct 13, 2016

I just got around to trying these out the last few days. My thoughts so far - they seem a bit stiff, but not in a bad way - they offer good support. Nice padded collar, good overall comfort, nice Vibram sole. On the negative side, they are plenty pricey (which it seems like the whole hiking boot market is getting that way). I gave them a waterproofing test (somewhat unintentionally stepping in 3"+ of water at work) - my feet did not actually get 'wet'; however, they did feel kind of cold and damp as I continued to wear them for a few more hours. After removing them, they seemed pretty dry on the inside. I'm guessing that the perforated leather outers allowed water to kind of sit against the waterproof membrane liner, leading to the cold, damp feeling. So, maybe the perforated leather that allows them to be 'breathable' has a slight downside when submerged? I'd probably give them 3.5 stars, but since it can only be 3 or 4, I picked 4. This is my first pair of Alpina brand hiking boots. For the price, I'm not sure I would buy a second pair - I think there are better ones to be had with a little shopping around.

Great boots!

I got these on sale, and they are some of the best fitting Timberland's i have ever had. Not sure about waterproofing just yet, but they are comfortable enough to wear all day.

ECCO Rules!

Written on Dec 04, 2015

I love ECCO because they fit great and are very comfortable - these are no different. I wear a smallish-size 13, and although these say 13-13.5, they fit me very well.
