I only use this for day hikes while traveling. Maybe it is a little overkill but it works well for me. It packs down small and carries extra clothing, water, and food. That is all I need and it works well for me.
My old 650 down coat was bulky and outdated. I searched around for something else and settled in this one. I already have this jacket with a hood but loved it so much I wanted one without a hood for travel and hiking. They look great, fit great, very light and packable, and they are tough and warm. I tried various other down sweaters and down jackets in stores and these just fit me better than other brands. I wouldn't have splurged but the price was insanely low from Campsaver. THANK YOU!
This is my second Torrentshell+ and I got it because the Torrenshell is such a good rain jacket. This one allows me to wear a Camelbak without worrying about damaging my rain jacket. It makes a good lightweight hard shell with enough room for my favorite mid-layer plus baselayer{s}. Very good purchase!
Get one! This hoody, at first, seemed overpriced. Who in their right mind would pay that much? It seemed like an overpriced branding piece, but I was very wrong. Brooks-Range has never let me down and still has not let me down. The fit, weight, quality, and warmth/breathability of this layer is really top notch. I don't want to take it off. The extras you don't notice on these pictures at first - Size and placement of the pockets, the hood construction, the tuckaway thumb loops, and fabric - are all high quality. The entire package makes this an incredibly versatile piece of gear. Seriously, get one.
This is a light and warm mid-layer. It really changed my outlook on cold weather. I don't have to worry about bringing along something hooded and warm if the temps and weather are uncertain. The hood doesn't get in the way and is very useful. Feather light and deceptively warm. So good.... I bought the non-hooded version, too, for less windy days. My only regret is that they only had my least favorite color in my size.
Thin, light, and the amount of warmth is not what I expected. I wanted a no-frills piece and it is exactly what I wanted. Truly amazing technology! Also, many reviewers claim that they have problems with the zipper sticking. That is the only negative thing I have read about these. I have had ZERO problems with the zipper.
