Once you go mtnGLO you won't go back

Written on Jul 19, 2016

I actually bought the mtnGLO version of this tent because it was currently on sale. I didn't expect much out of it, but it didn't add to the weight significantly, so I gave it a try. I'm pleasantly surprised!!! It dims pretty low, just to see your stuff or brightens up enough to get away with reading or playing cards. It also makes it easy to find your tent at night. I slept 2 adults and an adult Shiloh Shepherd very comfortably. It would be pretty cozy for 3 adults, unless you're quite fond of each other. You can't stand inside (I'm 4'11") but it is quite comfortable to sit in. I can imagine that someone very tall might not be able to sit in this tent. The material is very light weight and BA packed everything in it's own ultralight sack so it can be easily separated for two people to share the weight or carried together in the included stuff sack that fits everything. It also already comes with ultralight tent stakes, so cross that off the list. The dual doors make it really easy for each person to get out so you aren't climbing over each other. With only 2 people and a dog, we can just fit our backpacks inside as well, however the vestibules created by the rain fly would at least shelter packs and equipment from rain if you ran out of space inside. Big Agnes also has terrific customer service!

No more sweaty back!!

Written on Jul 19, 2016

First off, I really hate getting swamp back like with my old backpack. The ventilation with this pack is so much better!!! Also, I can carry a heavier load (20-25lbs) without any back pain (Osprey has online tutorials about how to pack, adjust, and put on your pack - it's more technical than you think, so check it out). I wouldn't suggest buying this right before a backpacking trip as it does take some time to break in. When it's still stiff, it tends to ride up. In fact, I almost gave up on it until this last hike when it felt fantastic. It just doesn't move. I was jumping across boulders, bending over to my toes to fill my dog's water dish, and generally not acting like I was wearing a pack and this thing stayed put. Also, it comes with Osprey's new ultralight 2.5 liter bladder (which is the best design I've used so far) and a packable rain cover in the bottom, which really works well and is convenient. My only complaint is the pack makes some quiet squeaking prior to breaking in completely. Playing with adjustments seems to fix it and it's doing it less often for every km I put on it. I would definitely recommend to even the beginner backpacker/day hiker.

So comfy

I know that after an extended hike most people can sleep on most anything but I always woke up sore or not completely rested. This pad is the solution!! For such a light and compact pad (I can fit it in my bottom sleeping bag compartment with the sleeping bag) it is seriously thick. Enough so that even some tree roots are no big deal. Also, the ability to adjust firmness easily is awesome. Thank god someone came out with a two way valve. I mean floaties have one.... But anyway, the larger side rails are also a welcome addition. I never feel like I'm going to roll off. Also, for those of you who didn't like the deep pillow top of the old version, BA fixed that. It's not noticeable on this one. It also doesn't sound like a potato chip bag like some others (won't mention any names). Definitely worth it!!

Super light/small

I'm impressed! It's very light and packs very thin. In fact, it will allow my dog to help carry part of the tent as this will slip in her backpack easily and not add noticeable weight to it! Great buy!!
