Ingenious, works well, it is nice and packs like no other!

Written on Jun 13, 2015

Just had this one and gave it a try. I feels quite solid in handling, it stands well on the stove even well filled. The aluminum base seems to be well joined with the silicone. Its hard anodized bottom doesn't stick as much as titanium and if you use it in low to medium heat as they recommend it's even better. It is light for a pot of this volume. For weight, my scale showed 335 grams compared to 285 its specs claim. Also the claimed capacity is 2.8 lit whilst I found it 2.6 . Its workable capacity, as the pot has marked on it, is 2,0 lit, so you know this when selecting. It packs as small as no other pot. It is a brilliant idea.

Pretty cool but unstable for liquid food

Written on Jun 13, 2015

Ingenious product, as most sea to summit's. Nice and cool for some luxury in your gear.
It's tops are quite unstable and unless the food in it is solid this may be an issue. Having and the x mug, which doesn't have a solid bottom but it has a solid rim ring, I find it much more stable and secure. If they added to the x bowl a solid ring in the rim it would be great.

Great addition for large volume cooking + a tip

Written on May 09, 2015

I have the Trangia 25 set but for real cooking or more than 2 pers its small so I bought the 4.5 lit billy addition. Works well and holds a lot of food. It nests the trangia 25 inside, with its useful 2 pots/bowls, kettle, pan, strainer, etc. and its lid closes neatly on top. If you dont wrap the 25 whole set in a bandana or something similar the edge of the 25 pan/cover will mark the billy as it rattles inside. The alcohol burner power is not enough for large volume cooking so I made a trick that worked great. I put 2 alcohol burners inside the windshield, side by side and without sinking the one in its place as then the other would have no place to sit. The food comes quickly to a boil and then you can continue with one burner for simmering.

Good but not for a big man

Written on Mar 31, 2015

This is a strong, well made and comfortable armchair but not if you are a big man. The armrest front handles force your legs not to spread as a big bodied person needs and this makes a discomfort on its own. I have bought and the Alps Adventure chair rated to 400 lbs weight capacity and I find it much more comfortable than this armchair. Even Alps biggest model King Kong armchair that has a 4, 1/2 inches wider seat I think may not be enough for a big bodied person spreading legs comfortably. Appart from this, It unfolds at once, feels safe, and comfortable and its fabric seems strong too. It packs at a considerable size (compared to the chair), in a strong made carrying case. I would also prefer and another color option apart from rust (black or khaki). I would recommend this strong and nice armchair but not for big bodied persons.

Great chair

Written on Mar 18, 2015

From the first moment you understand this is a well made, strong, sturdy and safe chair. Slides open at once, is very comfortable and pleasent while seated even for a big man. The back support feels nice and comfortable too. It is almost better than an armchair, as I bought and the big CAT armchair from Alps and found that the handrests front supports, force uncomfortably your legs not to spread. The carrying case also looks strong and well made, you dont need to treat it as fragile.

Good, but...

Written on Feb 15, 2015

I liked the idea to light a fire with a piston. The piston itself is well thought and made and comes with spare rings. But when it comes to make an ember, it will not do so unless in very specific conditions. I have tried many materials such as cotton (very thin) , tobacco, coal, paper, thin dry wood, and others but no one managed to ignite. The only thing that ignited was char cloth. So unless if you carry enough char cloth, I assume it will be quite hard to find on site materials that will ignite. The bushcraft pleasure you can take out of the piston may be limited to the thought or having it, rather than using it...
