I love the supple feel of this rope and its weight. Of course there are lighter ropes out there nowadays, but not too many things can go wrong with a rope from Beal. The color is a tad brighter, gaudier shade than the picture suggests.
This was my first experience with a frameless backpack and I was surprised how comfortably it carried its load -- as long as you stayed below the 15-20 pound mark. It becomes quickly uncomfortable above that weight range. The backpack has great durability, and has withstood everything I threw at it.. except for ice axes which shredded the front mesh, but that is probably because this backpack wasnt meant to be used for mountaineering in the first place. The colors are also prettier than the pictures.
The gloves are very breathable and supple and I haven't experienced any wetting out yet, unlike most goretex gloves that always wet out a bit during exertion. The quality of the gloves are great, as can be expected from a company like rab.
I've always been annoyed by the rear brim of most hiking hats with large brims where they bump into my backpack -- this hat solves exactly that problem and does it well. It's extremely packable, too. I've really crammed it into my backpack at least fifty times by now and machine washed about ten times, and it hasn't lost its shape yet. The glasses holders are a great feature as well. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
I love the designs of klymit sleeping pads, but their 'groove' design doesn't seem to work on their pillows as well. It's not the lightest backpacking pillow out there, nor is it insulated, nor is it one of the more comfortable ones. I guess it's cheaper than the competition but that's about it.
I'm 5'6" and I've always found the regular NeoAirs too long and the short ones too short. It always felt like I was carrying extraneous weight with my other pads, but this one is perfect for my height! I'm a tosser so the width could've been a little wider, but it didn't feel any narrower the other neoair regulars. I've used it down to freezing, but the insulation seemed enough down to the 20s (I'm a cold sleeper). The material is less crinklier than my xtherm.
The fabric has an amazing feel to it. The waistband is elastic but non-adjustable, so be careful when sizing up. I'm thinking of returning these for a smaller size, but other than the fit these pants are just what I imagined them to be from the pictures. I am impressed by the build quality of these pants!
