did alot of research before deciding in the exped downmat 5 lite. there are tradeoffs with weight, durability, comfort and convenience. this for me was the right mix. you give up convenience as the deflation is a pain although i have found that if you are mindful about how you depress the deflate valve it goes faster. have used it on 6 backpacking trips so far in northern minnesota to around freezing and is comfy.

Deflating by itself and not when I tried to do it. Like the new simple pump that comes with it, though. I am not sure if i could use the same pump to deflate, but, I could not figure it out.

This is a good pad. It compresses very well. It is comfortable and warm. The downside is it does take time to inflate and deflate.

Used the exped downmat5 this weekend on a mt. whitney climb, set tent up on a rock outcrop ( only place not covered with snow) the exped kept me insulated from the cold rock. gets 5 stars

Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I love the idea of the down mat and the pump seems cool! I did inflate it and lay on it - seems very comfortable.

I received the Downmat Lite 5 Sleeping Pad just in time for my boy scout backpacking outing. The sleeping pad is light and compact. It is extremely comfortable. It was easy to inflate and easy to deflate/pack. The pump works perfectly.
I bought it primarily to keep me warm in my hammock and it did just that. I was going to buy a cold weather system for my hammock, but it only works if I am using the hammock. With the sleeping pad, I can go to the ground if I can't find a place to hang my hammock.
I think the temperature got down to the 40's, but I am not sure. I am looking forward to using it in sub-freezing weather to see how it works.

I'm an outdoor instructor in New England. I got this pad for my 11 year old son. Our first outing was on a realllllly cold, wet April weekend. Much colder than the seasonal norm. He was warm and comfortable both nights. The included pump is fantastic and works with my Exped mat that I bought a couple of years ago.

This is a great cold weather pad for those of us who can't get comfortable on a closed cell pad any more (you know - "geezers"). It does take a while to deflate ALL the air out to get it into its stuff sack due to the narrow connections between the chambers, so don't expect to be the first to move out in the morning.
I have the wide, and if I were doing it over again I wouldn't go wide (I'm 6'1 #1

I love this mat, after a long day on the trail (or off) nothing beats resting on the exped downmat. Its nice not having to blow up the mat and instead using the provided pump. Its kept me warm, comfortable and well rested.
