I was talked into getting a smaller day pack for hiking by a friend. This is a small pack, it is well made and thought out. But, I like my roomier Gregory Z35 for hiking though the mountains. I've used the Wasatch several times now and I find myself wishing I had my roomier pack. I carry this bag when I ski. It is the right size to put my hydration bladder, snacks and sandwich for the day, and extra clothing if it gets hot in the afternoon.
The waist straps and side pockets are a bit bulky, but they big enough to stuff an energy bar and sunscreen for easy access while you are sitting on the lift.
I like the zipper for easy access to the bladder.
It is a solid backpack
