I've worn the Kelty Redwing 50 to hike across France on the GR65 trail and a Kelty Redwing 44 to hike across Spain on the Camino del Norte plus the Camino Primitivo. These are comfortable, practical and affordable packs. I can say so after walking in excess of 1,800 kilometres with them on my back where the pack and gear weighed between 19 to 26 pounds depending on how much food and water was aboard. For me it was too bulky for my back and shoulders . I’m 5”6 144lb . I couldn’t deal with the weight while backpacking Northern Europe . I had to replace it halfway Of the trip . I gave it 3 stars but it can always work for someone else . Great quality and seems durable .
Pros:
  • spacious and deep
  • it has multiple straps and some side pockets -big which are really nice to put meds or other items .
Cons:
  • Too heavy for me .

Light weight durable backpack. Easy reach side netting for water bottle.

I’m in my 4th season with a Kelty Redwing 50-Liter Backpack. I do a lot of hiking in RMNP. This backpack is extremely durable and light weight. The stitching is holding up without any flaws. The 50-Liter size is large enough to carry everything you need for a long day-hike in the mountains. Plenty of room for extra clothing, plus all the other things you need (water, food, etc.). Lots of pockets to separate things out for easy access. The thing I like the most is the easy reach side netting for my water bottle. Other backpacks I’ve owned are nearly impossible to reach, but this one is perfect. The shoulder straps adjust easily while walking to drop weight onto your hips or back to your shoulders when needing some adjustment. I highly recommend this backpack.

Not one size fits all

I Love the bag. It is awesome and very well built. I am 6'1'' @ 185lbs and it is super comfortable, perfect fit. The only issue is I purchased it for my wife. She is 5'1'' @ 110lbs and it is way to big for her. It doesn't even come close.

An excellent pack. It could however use a separate compartment for shoes and the rain cover should be included. Other than that, it is great.

Excellent pack.

Great fit and features. I purchased a Kelty Redcloud 110 last fall & really like it. Wanted something smaller for day hikes,and the Redwing 50 is very similar. Having plenty of storage compartments beats having to dig down into the top of a pack to find something. Both packs were to replace very old, heavy canvas packs. New materials & fit are so much better. I'm sure these will last a very long time.
