Phillip's Review of Lems Boulder Camp Boot - Mens

I rarely write reviews, but the Lems Boulder Boot deserves one.
I walk barefoot whenever I am not at work or not backpacking. The Lems boulder boots are on my feet for the times I must wear shoes.

I spent a long time researching different shoes and I think these are one of the best.
The sole is thick enough to protect your feet from really sharp rocks with a loaded pack, yet thin enough to give you good ground feel.
They are bendable enough that you can flex your foot and grab with your toes, although you aren't going to get a full on monkey grip like you can with thin hurraches or simple bare feet, but hey you also wouldn't be able to walk on sharp shale with a loaded pack in bare feet. Right tool for the right job.

These work great on and off the mountain, I love their rugged yet refined style and there is enough color combos to satisfy everyone, if not you are too picky. The toe box is massive and it allows your toes to really spread out, my feet/toes never hurt after walking in these all day. Never cramped.

Pros:
-Lightweight
-Packable
-Stylish
-Very wide toe box

Cons:
- Durability
-Cotton lining
-Price

If the cons could be addressed I would give these shoes 5 stars day and night, but I just can't.

First off the sole is an air injected rubber which makes for a nice soft sole, but it also means it wears out quite fast.
I stomped around Joshua tree and Yosemite in these climbing on all the rough granite and the tread on these got eaten up.
With out the tread these shoes become very slippery on wet surfaces. I would say that if you wore these shoes everyday and did some bouldering once a month the soles would be toast in 6 months.
The uppers will still have plenty of life left, but with no grip these shoes loose much of their function.

I wish Lems would partner up with Vibram and grab a 10-12mm sole and slap it on these bad boys and you would have one heck of a shoe that lasts a whole lot longer.

The second Con is the cotton lining. While it looks great, it is terrible for practical reasons. It soaks up sweat and water like thats its job and it takes some time to dry out, the durability on cotton is also low. Switch the cotton lining to a more durable, moisture wicking, quick drying nylon/polyester and the issue is fixed.

The price I am only listing as a con because of the durability. I would have absolutely no problem paying $120 with a smile on my face if Lems put a thin 10-12mm Vibram sole and switched out the cotton lining to a nylon/polyester. The durability and function would be greatly improved and you would have one of the best minimalist shoes on the market. The best in my opinion.

I still highly recommend these shoes I just would like to see these small improvements made.
Overall great job Lems team.
