First Marmot, very impressed

by Mac, from GA, United States Written on March 4, 2019
This is my first Marmot product of any kind. I must say I am impressed with the quality. It is very warm and comfortable. The large fits me perfectly. I am 6 feet and 160 lbs and wear a 34 inch sleeve. The pockets are fleece lined. It also blocks wind well too. It was on sale on Campsaver.com and had favorable reviews on other sites as well. While it does not get brutally cold in Georgia, 25 to 30' F with 15 mph winds is cold to me and this jacket keeps me perfectly warm without multiple layers underneath.
Pros:
  • Fit and finish
Cons:
  • No phone/chest pocket or interior pockets
Best Used for:
  • Daily winter wear

Valuable Honest review

by Rainbird, from WI, United States Written on February 16, 2018
Let me say that my review is going to differ vastly with some of the reviews that claim some level of warmth for this jacket that is just not realistic. It makes me wonder who is writing some of these reviews and why. That being said..............
Nice looking piece, heavier than comparable down, but not extremely or excessively so. No geese or ducks were killed making it. No stitched seams in the baffles is good, but only time will tell if the insulation finds a way to migrate. It only has two hand pockets, which is less than desirable, but not a deal breaker. Perhaps they will figure out how to integrate more pockets with the new insulation and no stitch baffling. Overall I like the jacket very much (simple clean lines), but the lack of an additional pocket and the fact that I have not had the piece long enough to evaluate it fully get it four stars. Now, on a quite serious note, I want to mention this jackets real potential. The descriptions from Marmot, and on other sites (which often just copy what Marmot has said ), are misleading to a fairly substantial degree. This is most certainly not a " heavy-weight cold weather jacket." It is actually a mid-weight moderately cold weather jacket. One first hand look at it and you will know it is a mid-weight piece. Trying it on only confirms that it is a mid-weight piece (there isn't enough insulation & it has no hood). I don't know why they are billing it as a heavy-weight. Sure, it's good for winter hiking (walking the dog) or...
