Light weight but warm on the biggest ski mountains. I can comfortably wear my northface down jacket underneath for extra warmth on negative degree days. I'm 5'8" and 125lbs. A size small fits great and is plenty long enough.

I love this jacket! I use it for skiing. The armpit zippers are great to give some ventilation while still keeping the wind and wet out. The mesh inside pocket is big and I stuff water bottles, and extra gloves or whatever else my kids may need in there. I am typically a size 10, and I am between size medium and large, so I got the large and I like the roominess. On colder days I wear a fleece vest underneath, but usually a base layer with this jacket is enough. Note: I usually ski in NC or WV where it is not very cold, usually in the 30's or 40's. in colder climates more layers may be needed. It is true that it zips up high, to the nose, but i like this to protect my face while going downhill. I didn't think I would like that the hood doesn't zip off, but I found out I would never take it off anyway. I like using hood when it is snowing or raining and can easily flip it down if I don't need it. I haven't tested it with a helmet; not sure if it would fit over a helmet but I think it would.
Pros:
waterproof
Pockets
ventilation
Cons:
hood doesnt zip off
Best Used for:
Skiing
Would recommend: Yes

I normally wear a size 8 or Medium, but I already have a Marmot ski jacket in a size Large - which gave me enough room to add layers underneath. I bought this one in a Large for the same reason, but it was WAY too big. I returned it and ordered a medium. I still have plenty of room for layers, and it's very comfortable. Not sure what the extra zipper on the neck is for....? Only odd thing is that the main zipper/neck portion is a little high. Reaches to my nose - which may be great if it's cold. :)
Pros:
Hood is helmet compatible and adjustable
Hood adjustment bungies are on the chest, which is easier to access
Cons:
Wish the hood was removeable
Neck comes up a bit high
Best Used for:
Skiing, winter sports
Would recommend: Yes

I really wanted to like this jacket, as I live in coastal New England and need a windproof/waterproof jacket for hikes and long walks on cold winter days. Unfortunately, the jacket is way too big for me around the torso, but the armholes are binding even with a lightweight sweater. As a result, I did not attempt to size down.
I had hoped this technical fabric was going to hit the sweet spot for water protection and breathability, but having decided to return this jacket right away, I never had the chance to see how well the fabric actually performed in outdoor conditions.
Pros:
Technical fabric
Promise of breathability in wet conditions
Cons:
Fit
Jacket styling
Too boxy and baggy around the middle
Best Used for:
HIKING
Would recommend: No
