Most Helpful Positive Review Perfect down
Perfect sized down hoodie. Sized as a belay jacket in shoulders. Can be worn alone, over multi properly sized layers or under shell. It is a little oversized but in all right places if athletic build with any girth to shoulders. 5'11, 185 athletic build size LARGE is perfect for my uses. Super easy care. Dry with tennis balls. Excellent loft.

Marmot Hype Down Hoody

by Dean D., Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on February 7, 2022
I've wanted this jacket for a long time. Filled with Responsible Down Standard (RDS) 800 certified down. Made in Vietnam. I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs., got the XXL and it's too big (I figured that), but it was 70% off at Campsaver, and that's all they had on sale, so I'll keep it. Arm length is good. It's surprisingly light and relatively warm for its weight. I pick it up and keep expecting it to be heavier. It has two big mesh pockets on the inside, and two good size zippered hand pockets on the outside. Material is Pertex Quantum, very soft and feels great. No leaking feathers so far. Has pull cords to tighten up bottom and hood. Wrists are elastic. This jacket will be good for hiking/camping in cold weather. It's light so I can carry it in my pack, and I can wear it while I sleep in my sleeping bag.
Pros:
  • Light & warm
Cons:
  • Too big
Best Used for:
  • cool and cold season hiking

but not for everyone's use

I've had many different down and synthetic insulated jackets in my decades of outdoor adventure sports and life. I decided to get this one after the main zipper died on my previous mid-weight down jacket, which already had a few holes from years of use as well. I liked this one having 800-fill down, and hoped that it would be significantly lighter than my old jacket, which had 700 fill down. I didn't like that the Hype's down was not treated to be hydrophobic, as many better brands now are doing for some water resistance.

great jacket

I love this jacket but they run BIG
I have two other Marmot jackets (love them) both medium size. They fit well and "snug". I wanted the Hype Down so I could layer up on colder days so I ordered a large based on previous jackets and size charts. I was swimming in it, could have worn another full jacket under it.....
Pros:
  • Simple and comfortable
Cons:
  • Runs big

soft and comfort and warm but runs a bit large

by kongliang, Verified Owner from OR, United States Written on December 9, 2020
it's quite soft, the material feels good! quite warm, I think it is a little more warmer then arcteryx cerium lt hoody. But the size is pretty large for the size small. you'd better buy one size down compared with arcteryx or patagonia down hoody.
Pros:
  • warm
  • soft
Cons:
  • runs large
Best Used for:
  • Daily

Nice Jacket

by ser, Verified Owner from DE, United States Written on December 3, 2020
I haven't worn the jacket yet but I was persuaded by some of the comments that the jacket ran quite large so I purchased a M rather than my usual L. Turned out too small for me. The L just arrived today and it might be just a tad bit long in the arms but fits around the chest much better. I don't think they run much larger than usual and, based on my experience, I wouldn't suggest ordering down a size.

Great jacket

This thing is a beast. Every review has been accurate in saying you should size down. I feel that it has ample room to layer up for the cold, but you can easily wear a Tshirt under this in 10-20 degree Fahrenheit weather. Sweatshirt will easily get you into the -20s. I have a lighter jacket that can hold similar temps than this, but given its “puff” factor, I will say that this is still a very light, and really sleek jacket.
