MSR Hyperflow Problems Resolved

by KarlosJ83, Gear Expert from UT, United States Written on September 10, 2011
Encountered a lot of negative reviews about the product prior to purchase. Checked with MSR and they indicated early filter production problems as the culprit. Filter worked great on a 6-day Grand Canyon trip and kept the 4 of us well hydrated. The water we pumped was largely silt-free. Brought along an MSR Sweetwater SiltStopper pre-filter just in case, but didn't need it. Followed the back-flus

I am new to Backpacking. My wife and I are getting started and our spending philosophy has always been do your homework, spend what you need to, and get a good product the first time. MSR has designed the hyperflow to be a great fliter. The instructions out of the box require that you hook up 2 connections and start pumping. Admittingly, the dissambly and reverse flowing can be frustrating, but th

by Wbp, from MS, United States Written on August 9, 2020
Awesome. Better than a life straw since you can carry as much water as you can And not have to revisit it water supply every time you want to sip of water.Highly recommended. Would be even a better product if you had it in stock and we could purchase it.
Pros:
  • Compact, inexpensive and best flow of clean water.
Cons:
  • Your company does not have any of this product to sell to people who need it.
Best Used for:
  • Thirsty people

by Rebecca W., Written on April 23, 2016
I haven't had the chance to use my micro filter yet but I received it in good time, and it's exactly as it promised to be. I know msr is a fantastic brand so I'm not worried!

Water Made Easy

by Cutty, from WA, United States Written on December 12, 2013
One of the worst parts about backpacking is filtering all the water, gallons and gallons of water it never ends. Well with this little baby that huge chore is almost made enjoyable. Almost ;)
I've ownded 2 of the MSR sweetwater systems and they are bombproof, I still have one the other one was somehow misplaced. They work great and I never had any complaints except for the flow rate. It took forev

Not for everyone

by ratt, Written on September 22, 2013
I love this pump. From all the negative reviews I guess you all know there are some sort comings, mostly because its a high maintenance product. Back flushing often and frequently is important and its easy to mess up especially if the pump hydra locks. Don't drop the unit or let it freeze and you will be ok.

There are only 2 other pumps that flow as fast as this pump. The first need XLE which I t

Fast flowing filter

by Gravelost, from CA, United States Written on September 10, 2013
My wife and I are new to backpacking. After much reading, we settled on the MSR Hyper flow water filter. This filter packs down small for a piece of gear. Its only about the size of a small bicycle air pump. I am amazed at how much water this filter pumps given its small size. It can pump a little over a liter per minute for 8 minutes before it needs to be back flowed, which is kind of a pain requ

Light and compact

by Stonewall, from UT, United States Written on September 10, 2013
I truly enjoy the lightweight and the compactness of this filter. When the filter is clean, the water flow is great. I found doing backflush after 10 liters helped continue better flow. I wish the pouch was a bit bigger so it could hold all of the equipment. It is too tight. I took this backpacking down in the Colorado River drainage system. The floating filter came in handy because it floats on t

Easy to use!

by Paul Two Feathe, Written on September 10, 2011
I'm an avid hiker that gets out at least 2-3 times durning the week on shorter 3-5 mile hikes in the hills near my home and a longer day hike in one of the State Parks on weekends. A friend of mine has the Sweet Water filter by MSR and he loves it. Since I was planning on doing some 3-4 day back packing trips this summer I decided to buy the Hyperflow which is the performance version of the Sweet

Easy, Fast, Light... Super Rad!

by LoganCrest, from UT, United States Written on September 10, 2011
I've wanted one of these for a long time, and mine has performed perfectly! It pumps so fast and is so light/compact. The first time I took it out on the trail I pumped about 14 liters before back flushing it. And after having watched a short YouTube video, back flushing was VERY easy! My friends all want one now, after I gave them a chance to filter their water with it. The threaded attachme

AWESOME

by effman, Written on September 10, 2011
I received this as a Christmas gift and finally was able to use it this past weekend and it worked GREAT. It does filter water extremely fast, I filled a three liter platypus in about a minute. The water tasted fine (it was from a fairly clear stream) and no one got sick. I did have to keep it in my jacket with me and put it in my sleeping bag at night so it wouldn't freeze, that is the only co
